Estimating Walleye Abundance Using Mark-Recapture

DEC and Cornell University collaborate to monitor and manage the Oneida Lake walleye population. Cornell researchers take advantage of the annual walleye egg collection at Oneida Fish Hatchery for a large-scale fin clipping effort as part of a mark recapture study to estimate the abundance of adult walleye in the lake.

Respectfully, I find removing a fin an abhorrent way to “mark’ them. Treating wild animals (even fish) apathetically-like wood to carve -demonstrates such hubris Killing to eat is one thing This is ridiculously, unnecessarily brutal on a massive scale Bio/chem degree, meat eater here.
