Bekonscot Model Village - 11th April 2023

Bekonscot Model Village actually comprises of seven little towns stuck in a 1930s timewarp and is "is the oldest original model village in the world". In this video we take at look at the garden railway running between the wonderful model buildings and scenes.
We finish looking at the Bekonscot Light Railway miniature railway.

We visited a few years ago. I noticed that the buildings were on a completly diffrerent scale from the trains. So, as we "exited through the gift shop", I asked. "Yes", he replied, "the buildings are 1/12 and the trains are 1/32 (G-Gauge). You are the first person to ask that question on my watch! A little neredy trivia here! ^_^. Not in any way meant to detract from the marvellous detail of ALL the models!

To be completely accurate, the track is a blend of G and Gauge 1 as far as I can see in the video (45mm between the rails). G is widely used for garden railways around the world and known to many as LGB or 1:22.5 (which is why the sleepers look so chunky) BUT the rolling stock is G1 - which can be either 10mm = 1' or 1:32 (a discussion that's been rumbling on for years), so they look a long way out of scale, but it's still an impressive village

It's a shame they didn't get the colliery headgear correct. The wheels should rotate in opposite directions and the wiring ropes e ter the winding house at different levels. Otherwise, an excelent representation of a coal mine.
