Miss Howard here, although it gives Bela more room to spread his feet and go deeper than usual. Love the Flecktones!! Thanks for posting!

People dont understand how powerful Bela and the Flecktones were back in those days. Imagine: A well-known legendary bluegrass banjo player next to two black guys who not only understood the bluegrass feel but also brought innovation to the table. This alone was Bela's 'Middle-finger' to the bluegrass world at that time where he saw crazy amounts of anti-black racism. Bela has only talked about this briefly but I think his next documentary is going to call it out.

This video has 3.6k views and now three comments and there is more skill/musicianship shown in the first minute than anything top 40. Fame is so backwards.

What is the first song? It appears to be "South" but I cannot find it on any of their albums from this period. I can't find it at all for that matter. Thanks in advance !

I think it’s from the UFO Tofu album minus the harmonica part.

South? This is a deep-cut I guess... it's not on any of the Flecktones albums... at least not yet anyway. What a great find! I've been a big fan for over 30 years and today I get to hear another something new from them! Thanks for posting!

Bassist Victor Wooten's brother, Roy, is playing the Drumitar - a MIDI-triggered drum kit of sorts, in the shape of a guitar. I've been listening to these guys since the early 90s, and Flight of the Cosmic Hippo was the very first album of theirs that I gladly bought, on CD. They once opened for Strunz and Farah at the Cerritos Performing Arts center in 1999 (?) and I was far more impressed by them then Strunz and Fara (who I initially went to see). Incredible musicians.
