STORYLINE:
Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday for high-level talks with North Korean officials.
Ryzhenkov arrived into the country on a flight from Beijing and was greeted at Pyongyang airport by Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jong Gyu.
Ryzhenkov’s short visit is the second high-level exchange between Pyongyang and Minsk this year.
Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Evgeny Shestakov visited North Korea in April.
North Korea and Belarus have had diplomatic relations since the early 1990s, after the end of the Soviet Union.
But North Korea only recently opened an embassy in Minsk, in 2016, and Belarus does not have an embassy in Pyongyang.
Both countries share close links to the big country in between them, Russia.
Neither country has made public the agenda of Ryzhenkov’s visit to Pyongyang.
Belarus' Foreign Ministry said that the visit is taking place 23-25 July.
