In the 70's in Brazil, if Elis Regina chose your song for her repertoire, it was the greatest compliment a new artist could receive. She blessed Belchior and welcomed him into the Brazilian canon, basically. Belchior said this was one of the best things that happened in his life (having Elis promote his music and art). SImilar to how Joan Baez was Dylan's "godmother" in the American folk scene in the 60s

About Belchior, the last years of his life were lived almost as an anonymous person. At a certain point in his life he left everything here in Brazil and went to live in Uruguay, but things ended up not going very well there, which made him return to Brazil. There are reports that in his last days in Uruguay he even slept under a bridge. Back in Brazil he remained quite reclusive, avoiding the media and most invitations for new performances.

This is a genial song. Full of playwords. For example: Paul and Poe (McCartney and Edgar Allan Poe) sound similar, and both of the wrote verses about a black bird (Blackbird and The Raven). And we have in Brazil a regional song named Assum Preto (Black Assum), also named "Passo Preto" (a northest variation of Black Bird). So Belchior mix three poetic texts to talk about the past and the needness to go on, to the future.
