Welcome to Jinjer. They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, part of the territory annexed by Russia in 2014. Tatiana, Roman (guitar), Eugene(bass) and Vlad (drum). All are amazing. This performance is from the Live in LA CD/DVD/Blu-ray, recently released, but recorded Dec 2022. According to their site, formed in 2009, but consider 2010 as the start(wiki says 2008/09) when Tati and Roman joined, no original members remain. They were a 5 piece until rhythm guitarist Dmitriy Oksen (last original member) left to pursue acting, and wasn't replaced. 4 albums and several EP's to date. And brand new song just released. As impressed with Vlad as you are, consider he was self taught on drums, though classically trained on piano. Eugene does more tapping than most bassists I have seen. The guys write the music, Tati writes most of the lyrics, though Eugene helped on this and both he and Tati are Pisces. Song is from the 2016 2nd album, King Of Everything, recorded shortly before Vlad joined. The live session of this song was done to showcase Vlad shortly after, check that out later, as Tatiana , in the final section, switches in the middle to a clean belt. Her big vocal influences include Gwen Stefani on cleans, and for harsh Otep and Randy Blythe(lamb of God). She can get deeper too, try "Home Back" and "Vortex" to hear that, recommend the MV for Home Back due to song content. NAd the new song, released Aug 1, is "Someone's Daughter".

Holy cow, man! I didn't realize you hadn't heard Jinjer. Many of us The Warning fans are also Jinjer fans. I have been lucky enough to see both bands live and these guys also, live is their superpower. Eugene, Roman and Vlad are next level musicians and Tati is an incredible singer and lyricist. This is from their new Live in Los Angeles DVD. Another great song of theirs is "Pit of Consciousness" live in Kiev. Enjoy!

Vlad (the drummer) is a trained classical pianist. He is also self-taught on guitar and drums. Tatiana writes almost all of the lyrics, though Eugene (bass player) helped on Pisces. Like Tool, the band writes the music first. Tatiana must then add the lyrics. Her ability to find a melodic line which fits above such technical music is one reason why Jinjer is so fascinating. That and her amazing vocal abilty of course.

Jesse- thank you, thank you, thank you for recognizing Eugene (bass), Roman (guitar) and Vlad (drums) right out of the gate. Tatiana is certainly upper echelon as a vocal performer, but the three gentlemen beside and behind her often don't get enough credit by many who are lured in by her delivery. To other Jinjer fans here, you should know I'm not speaking of you. You get it, and now our friend Jesse does as well. Lots of great material out there for you to dive into, especially their live stuff, Jesse. Hope to see you dip in deeper into this incredible band more in the near future now.

I think for Vlad open handed is a natural because he started on piano and piano players rarely cross their hands. That and his kit is low without the rack toms. Jinjer is known for their live stuff so you came to the right band. They have more good videos on KZbin than most channels are willing to react to and you can't go wrong with any of the official ones and even some of the unofficial ones. Having said that based on what you said in the video some suggestions would be Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air, Pit of Consciousness Live in Kyiv, Sit Stay Roll Over Live in Melbourne, Judgement and Punishment One Take Vocal Performance, On the Top Live in Kyiv, Cloud Factory Live, Captain Clock Live at Resurrection Fest. They have a new OMV called Someone's Daughter that is good too. Also you might like one of Vlad's drum playthrough videos like the one for their song Mediator, or Call me a Symbol.

Oh man, this is a rabbit hole you need to go down. I saw them in April and if I didn't already love them I would now. Next, check out her one-take vocal of Judgement & Punishment. Totally different vibe than Pisces. Teacher Teacher is my all-time favorite. Vortex is a freaking trip. Home Back brings me to tears. Who Is Gonna Be The One is a banger. Tati is a beast. She's writing and singing in her third language (she's from Donetsk, Ukraine, where the primary language is Russian). Vlad (drummer) is a classically trained pianist who taught himself guitar and drums. And Roman (guitar) and Eugene (bass) have such distinctive styles. It all combines into magic. Nobody sounds like Jinjer.

Great react, Jesse! Yep, they're all virtuosos on their instruments, Vlad the drummer was actually a conservatory-trained classical pianist before switching to drums. Might be one reason to explain his being ambidextrous. Tatiana is one of the (if not THE) most accomplished female harsh vocalists. In any case she has the deepest growl of all women growlers I heard to date. Funnily enough, off stage she's a very introverted almost shy person.

Bro I've seen a lot of reactions to this song. This is one of the best I've seen. Instant sub from me. Yeah there's A LOT going on here. It's cool you went right to the drums, unlike most. You didn't say if you're a drummer yourself. You are picking up on more of the nuance of Vlad as a drummer than anyone but a drummer normally does. I can tell you're gonna be a Vladislav convert. Ya this guy is a fkn beast. In fact he's my favorite drummer since the great Neil Peart RIP. Totally different styles, approaches, and polar opposite kits. But the same intention is there. The way he hits each note is like NOPE. And the economy of motion bro. His open-handed style is so ergonomic. You didn't mention the setup of his kit, probably because this video doesn't show it much. (I've actually heard people complaining about the editing of this particular video--one guy said "Whoever edited this video doesn't know the band." I don't go that far, I love it all.) But wait till you see how Vlad sets up his drums. Like a jazz player on crack lol. Low low orientation, with everything flat instead of angled toward him. Sometimes he actually tilts the drums AWAY from him! No rack toms. None. Two snares, one on each side. The right one is a piccolo or firecracker snare. He tunes them sumbitches so high they're like to break lol. The multiple floor toms are tuned flat. Almost zero resonance to his kit, it's all impact. Yet he generally doesn't hit hard at all. His style to me looks repeatable, more than most metal drummers. He doesn't even look like he's sweating. He uses Zildjian Zil-bell cymbals flip-mounted on top of other cymbals, and he loves to throw in little ding-ding accents in pauses and odd moments. He's got the double-kick speed thing where the heel swivels left and right, pivoting on the toe. In one recent playthrough video he has a remote cable hi-hat set out in front where he can't even hit it with his hands--he just foot actuates it. And the ghost notes bro! The g-g-g-ghost notes Scoob! Someone once said every venue is haunted after Jinjer plays there--Vlad drops so many ghost notes. He's got a thousand ways to drop em. In Pisces he alternates between hi-hat and ghost snare throughout the verse--which you'll note is in 7/8, divided into 3/8-4/8. The pre-chorus is in 6/8, and the chorus is in 4/4 believe it or not, but emphasized so it sounds like one measure of 20/8. That is very typical for this band. In fact this song is almost tame by their standards. Yeah. Ok that's just the drums lol. And I could go on. Fun fact: the Live Session video of this song (currently sitting at 86+ million views) is the typical first Jinjer song people react to. You should check it out. It's actually mostly the album audio, with the main exception of the drums--and a very notable high vocal belt toward the end. That video, as I'm sure you'll hear from the outstanding Jinjer commenters, was intended to showcase then-new drummer Vlad. But as you'll see, Tatiana's vocal delivery is shock and awe. She's a force of nature. A unicorn. I call her Captain Metal, cuz she's a superhero onstage, and she comes complete with mild mannered offstage alter ego. On the boards something takes over, and she is one of the most riveting front persons you're gonna see anywhere. Plus the lyrics, bro, the lyrics. I'm not even gonna get into it here, this comment is already way too long lol. You just need to check out the lyrics. Plus the string players! The ensemble. They're insane. Super technicians, like you said, but with aggressive attitude. And the most important thing: the whole band plays TOGETHER so well. It's like telepathy. They're even better live than they are in the studio, and their albums are sick. They are road warriors. Take a look at their touring itinerary. They're out now. They're in the middle of I think it's 10 European festivals in 15 days. Then like a two day break and their US headlining tour starts, with openers Hanabie and Born of Osiris. Days after that wraps up they start a Euro tour co-headlining with Sepultura. Last year they had parallel US tours at the same time, opening for Disturbed on their big arena tour, and in between those dates they booked headlining dates of their own in smaller venues, supported by POD and a couple other bands. Their sound dude is killer. The live sound is top notch. They're way loud, but everything is clear and audible. Even with disgusting overdriven bass and guitar. I'm a bassist, and I've barely mentioned Eugene, who is like my favorite bassist on the planet. There's just so much to see and hear here. I could go on and on. You'll get a ton of great recommendations for follow-up reactions, and I hope you do then all! I'm here for it. You just have to go see Jinjer live. They're a must-see. They'll be touring the States in a few weeks. Best thing you'll maybe ever do for yourself is to grab you a ticket. You will not be sorry. As a professional musician for 45+ years, I can tell you this is one of the best live bands you'll ever see. Gotta stop myself lol. Great reaction. I hope to see more very soon. Rock on bro, and welcome to the Jinjer Army!

Man this is fantastic!! Thank you for all this, I promise I read it all and will definitely take this information in to my next reaction 🙏🙏 looking forward to seeing all these musicians with ALL GAS NO BREAKS hahahah. To your question to me - I am not a drummer! I’ve been a live sound tech for 17 years, and a studio mixing engineer for the last 2 or 3. Although I’ve played guitar and sang in a few bands, I’ve always considered a nice solid sound console my instrument. Playing other instruments has come from a place of excitement and necessity more so - having bands who drag ass in sound checks or show up late pushed me to figure out how to strike a drum and play half confidently just to make sure the show goes on smoothly. And besides, who doesn’t love to play the loudest natural instrument 😂😂 I also love working with drummers. I’ve been super fortunate with the musicians I’ve met and worked with, and some I get to call friends. Always looking to learn something from the best!! Cheers friend, this made my morning 💛
