Another Great Meal thanks Eric. The Belgians sure make super beer and food. In the past we used to enjoy many beers, meals and views in the Belgian Den Anker Restaurant in the Cape Town Harbour Waterfront. Got to get some more too again. All the very best to you and yours for 2022 and beyond from Cape Town. Cheers Steve Ingram. Just Enjoy!

It’s always nice to see that Japan is so open to other cultures and nationalities, at least as far as food goes. I don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard about a Belgian restaurant here in the States…the most we get are Belgian beer, chocolate, and waffles.

There are so many people on youtube who eat food and talk about it, but they miss one hugely fundamental thing. They don't seem to enjoy the food. It sounds crazy, but they don't make you feel like you are eating the dish, but Eric does this to pure perfection!

I have become a big fan of squid..... cooked properly, of course. Sushi, calamari, and as the main protein in some Thai stir fry dishes. Delicious! As for your meal, I liked the various small plates, which allows you to sample a wide variety instead of a big serving of just one dish. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you enjoyed the food and beer from my country Eric (apart from the squid dish, that one was weird..) We wouldn't typically have chocolate for a starter. That "croquette" that you mentioned was in fact falafel, with a harissa based sauce, there is a lot of Moroccan culture influences in Belgium , and it is very common that we eat "couscous" or Falafel, or spicy Moroccan lamb sausages called "merguez". There is also quite a bit of Vietnamese influence in Belgium, and we often eat that type of spring rolls (with different fillings, usually duck / chicken / beef / lamb) with coriander, we call them "Loempjas" . The Belgian kind would typically be a bit rounder and thicker than the one you had, and would normally come with a side of sweet chilli sauce. I am sure they did it because of availability limitations in Japan, but Belgium beers all have their own glasses, and it's usually not okay to serve a beer in a glass that isn't the glass for that specific beer. Each different beer glasses also have a different shape, and the shape of the glass is designed to increase the aroma and taste of each different beer. A little bit of a shame that they served the beers all in the same glass, which definitely was detrimental to the overall experience. If a café served beers in random glasses in Belgium, nobody would go there for drinks. If you ever get the chance to try Belgian beer again, I would recommend these : Leffe brune, Hoegaarden, Kriek, and pecheresse. I'm sure those would be available in Japan. Mind you, Belgium has over 300 different beers, but that list is the ones that tend to be exported outside of Belgium a bit more and among my favourites.
@GTAGMODZ3 жыл бұрын
Leffe tripel is one of my favourite beers. So deep in flavour compared to your average lager! I'm from the Netherlands but Belgian beer takes the cake!

@wiljantoonen33243 жыл бұрын
Not so typical Belgium is this meal i think. I miss the typical Belgium and Dutch fried snacks such as "frikandel", "Kroket" etc... and of course the "special sauce (mayo, curry with unions)". I think only the beers makes it Belgiums. Good for your untapped stats Eric. I use untapped tot register all my beers that i have tasted. Belgium have lot's of great beers. Leffe and "abdij beers" are my favorites.
@DovidM3 жыл бұрын
@@wiljantoonen3324 I wonder if the lack of typical Belgian dishes is the result of having to adapt the cooking to Japanese tastes? There might not be enough expats to support the restaurant.
@wiljantoonen33243 жыл бұрын
@@DovidM I think that also, but "nieuwe haring with unions" or "gebakken fish or kibbeling" will like the Japanees also because it is fish.
