If you have to choose only one in between Brussels and Bruges, then definitely spend your day in Brussels, as that is the capital of Belgium and give you a good overview about the country. At other hand, if you really have very limited time and interested in visiting Bruges as well then you can plan for Brussels just for few hours to visit the city center, Manneken Pis etc. Then you can take a train to Bruges and spend rest of the day there. Bruges can be covered in 5-6 hours if you have limited time.

No...the return ticket price is 17.4 euro on weekend...entire Belgium provides 50% discount on weekend
