Gillet volley secures point for Belgium
Belgium and Croatia could not be separated in Brussels, after Guillaume Gillet's goal on the stroke of half-time cancelled Ivan Perišić's opener in this Group A clash.
Marc Wilmots rested Marouane Fellaini, giving Steven Defour a start, but things did not go to plan early on as Croatia's Borussia Dortmund winger scored after six minutes. However, Gillet grabbed his first goal in a Belgium shirt in first-half added time to earn a share of the spoils, after the two sides had picked up opening-day victories.
The early momentum was with the visitors in the Roi Baudouin Stadium, as Mario Mandžukić darted into the area from the right and his cross fell for Perišić who made no mistake. It took a while for Belgium to get over the shock, but they slowly gained the ascendency as Eden Hazard had an effort blocked and Axel Witsel pulled a shot wide. It took something special to draw the hosts level, however, and it was RSC Anderlecht defender Gillet who delivered, swerving a remarkable volley into the net from 20 metres.
After the break more chances came Belgium's way with Christian Benteke and Kevin Mirallas going near, but it was Domagoj Vida who came closest to snatching a victory for Croatia, heading a fraction wide of Thibaut Courtois' goal in added time

That goal from perisic in the 5th minute is the only goal that has been scored against Belgium in the whole qualifying campaign so far. 11 goals scored and only 1 against in six games against Wales, Croatia, Serbia, Scotland and Macedonia (twice). Pretty impressive stats.

so was Gillet's goal mistake in defense (youngling Radosevic wasn't at his place) also Vida in final minutes missed goal with his head by mistake (from 2 meters, and he was alone) and a lot of other mistakes.... and tw we already played 2 games vs wales, we only have 2xscotland, serbia and yoou, belgians but at home :)

lets not think to much of our team just yet, we are not even in brazil yet, and anything can go wrong football is also a few % of luck.. players can get injured or even die.. u never know. first lets qualify then lets make the top 8 then top 6 top 4 top 2 AND THEN we can talk about winning the worldcup.. semi finals would be a good finish for belgium now, they have many years to go at this age.. 2018 they will have much better chance of winning then now. but as i said, you never know.

well, the croatia goal was a mistake in defence combined with a lot of luck tho, and the opengoal chance from benteke where 1 defender cleared ball on the line .. in this match belgium dominated for sure, but they improved a lot, that was half year ago when half of the team was just in a decent topclub.. now they in a topclub for over a year and the pace they have should be incredibley high.. but football is based on luck aswell u never know what will happen, will see what happens at the end..

Ik ben franstalig en zoals alle franstalige voetballiefhebbers van België vind ik de commentaren van RTL Sport van heel slechte kwaliteit, vooral die van Grün. Geen enkele objectiviteit, amateurisme... ze kennen er absoluut niks van. Voor mij blijft Rodrigo Beenkens (RTBF) de allerbeste tegenwoordig. Trouwens, als RTL de match van de Rode Duivels speelt, kijk ik liever naar VRT :-)
