Supes Me I agree, it looks a bit off balance. I've only seen one 222 with landing gear, i.e. wheels. I might be wrong, but I think all/most 222's have landing gear and the 222UT's (Utility Twin) have skids.

Makes me wonder why they keep the Wheel Wells. Stability maybe?

I think its cost. Take off the wheels and stick skids rather than produce new tooling for a different airframe. It is also useful to stand on and get to the engine panels. But I don't know for sure. Just guessing.
