My wife's grandfather had a Bell & Howell Two Fifty Two that now sits on a shelf in our bedroom. Expect an order for some double 8 soon! :)

Hey man thank you for this video!! I just bought some film from yall to try this out. My father-in-law found one of these at his dad’s house and gave it to me knowing as a videographer myself I would like it. Do you have any tips for shooting with this? Like, what’s the focal range of the base lens? I’m so excited to test this out and see how I can implement this in future projects!
@FilmPhotographyProject Жыл бұрын
Fixed focus lens so stay at least 5 feet from subject. Simple point and shoot in daylight. Use 40 iso film. Video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKTEqppqp5ihgMUsi=SOjoA8ZUGo3iGxNd

Any advice or tips for a Bell & Howell Autoset 624EE 8mm Cine Camera? I got it as a Christmas present and am not sure 100% how it works.
@FilmPhotographyProject2 жыл бұрын
It works exactly like the camera in this video Use the manual mode and set your f-stops manually. The internal light meter most likely will not be accurate. Use 40 iso film. - Mike

Also, I have another question. It’s about your light bar. Is there a way to be able to use the light bar without using a light meter app?

Hey i just picked one of these up at goodwill with the case and in really good condition anyways do i need a projector to play the video i filmed?
@FilmPhotographyProject3 ай бұрын
Your developed film can be scanned. If you shoot "positive" film, you can use a projector.

@@FilmPhotographyProject ok. Thanks also if I was shooting in bright daylight which one of the iso settings on the camera would I use or if I was indoors??

With this camera, how do you adjust aperture correctly with modern iso of 100 and up?
@FilmPhotographyProject Жыл бұрын
Modern film is 40 iso - perfect for this camera - filmphotographystore.com/collections/movie-film/double-8

Hey just came across this video, anyway you could scan & upload that manual somewhere? I have a 252 & I was hoping to read the manual.

Just to let you know, I have a bell and howell 323 camera that has an handheld light meter on top of it with the sundial on the bottom. Can you get the right iso still nowadays with that old sunometer? Also, do you know we can get 8 mm projector bulbs for cheap?
@FilmPhotographyProject3 ай бұрын
The SUNDIAL will give you the incorrect aperture settings. Double 8 film in the mid-twentieth century had different light sensitivity. As described in the video - avoid the sundial.

Thank you for the video! Roughly how many minutes of footage will I get from a 25 foot roll?

Approx 4 minutes total. - Mike

I have a two twenty 8mm that seems to be jammed.. I can’t wind it any further and nothing happens when I press the front switch. 🤷♀️ Could it be gunked up inside? Is there any maintenance I should do?
@FilmPhotographyProject Жыл бұрын
"Gunked up" is probably correct. The grease inside hardens over the many, many decades. Last resort - firmly (but lovingly) bang the camera on a hard surface. It might loosen up the gunk. Some may cringe but it has worked for me! - Mike

How would I figure out the shutter speed on the Bell and Howell 252? I don’t have a manual but it is really similar to the 220
@FilmPhotographyProject2 жыл бұрын
Shutter speed is the same for all 8mm cameras running at 16 frames per second. 1/30th sec. Here's our video on using a light meter app - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6jae32JqK2obtk

Hi thanks for this video - do you have to load it in the dark? How come it doesn't expose all the film when you roll it over?
@FilmPhotographyProject Жыл бұрын
Load in dim light. Flipping your film to side two doesn't fully expose your film because the film is on what is called a "daylight spool". - Mike

What’s the maximum amount of film you can roll through these? Will it take 100ft?
@FilmPhotographyProject Жыл бұрын
25ft rolls of Double 8 film. Foam BW film is 33 ft and that also will fit. 100ft rolls - nope.
