As a Filipino, I didn't really see the reason why people hated her. She has the behaviour of a normal Filipino specially when she speaks our language. My grandma left my dad there and don’t intend to come back, and he was bullied so much for being abandoned and a soldier’s kid (classic $lūt-shaming, even though it wasn’t even by choice). When grandpa convinced his mom to come back for him, he was still bullied a lot in the US, but he was also proud of his Filipino heritage and still goes to visit his village every decade. Glad she takes so much pride in the culture, and I hope she’s doing well.
