Hi! I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for these beginner tutorials. You see, my grandmother is really good when it comes to crochet and I really want to learn but because of her old age she can't teach me and she gets tired easily. So I am really thankful to you for sharing your knowledge. I wish you all the best! ❤

Thank you so much, I’m glad you like them 😊 If you’re starting with twelve chains and working into the third chain from the hook, you should definitely end up with ten stitches. Is it possible that you’re skipping an extra chain by mistake and working into the fourth chain for example?

Hey, firstly can I say your videos are so so very helpful and I have learnt so much from you in just a few days already! I’d really appreciate if someone could help me with this question though. After the foundation chain, I understand the point of starting from the third chain as you’ve essentially created your turning chain ready and you give yourself your ten stitches in row one. But, what is the rationale behind skipping the first stitch (the base of the chain, as it’s described here) when you come to the subsequent rows? It leaves a gapped effect which you can see at the end (even here in the video) at alternating ends of the rows. By sheer accident and not following instruction properly I have been practicing this stitch NOT skipping the first stitch of every row, have ended up with 10 consistent stitches in every row and no gaps. Am I doing jt wrong or is it okay to do it like this?! Thanks so much in advance ❤
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much, I’m happy you find them helpful 😊 What you describe really comes down to personal preference, and you’ll find that it differs from pattern to pattern. It’s absolutely fine to not skip the first stitch of every row, just remember that your turning chain won’t count as a stitch in itself this way, and you shouldn’t work into the top of it when you work back along the row.

@bellacococrochet2 жыл бұрын
Counting and recognising your stitches is something that gets easier the more you practise 😊 After you have been crocheting for a while you'll begin to recognise each stitch and what they look like, but I always recommend counting as you go and using a row counter or app to help.
@zainabbatool52993 жыл бұрын
Absolutely amazing for beginner like me, so detailed video. Thank you I am practicing daily but i am facing some problems 1. The number of stitches differ in each row, it can be 10 in first and 9 in second. 2. My shapes get rounded instead of squares. 3.I am not getting where to put last stitch of second row. If anyone can help me, i'll be highly highly obliged. 🙏
@bellacococrochet3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome 😊 It sounds like you could be missing out a stitch which is why your stitch count is differing, and why the sides aren't keeping straight. Before you begin a row it can help to count the stitches so you can see clearly where you should be putting your hook; you can use stitch markers to mark each stitch.

Thank you so much! 😊 Some yarn is just more likely to split than others (cotton yarn is renowned for this). For a beginner I would recommend using a premium acrylic yarn such as Stylecraft Special DK or Paintbox Simply DK. You can also take a look at the hook you’re using and try one that’s more rounded at the end.

@bellacococrochet3 жыл бұрын
Working into the second and subsequent rows does look different to working into the chain, but you will get the hang of it with practise 😊 If you use fairly thick yarn such as aran weight, with a 5mm hook, the stitches should be easier to see. Looking down at the stitches from the top, you should be able to see a 'V' shape, and you need to insert your hook underneath both sides of the V.

My pattern says make a row of single crochet and then a row of half double and repeat... No matter what I do the work tilts. So why does or say to do that when it always tilts. Everyone says it's missing/adding stitches, but I know it isn't. I don't know what to do.
@bellacococrochet3 жыл бұрын
It's a bit tricky to know what's happening without seeing a photo, but normally alternating a row of single crochet with a row of half doubles shouldn't cause your work to tilt. Are you using stitch markers to help count out your stitches? Even if you have the correct amount, is it possible that you're working them into the wrong spaces?
@pokelynke82323 жыл бұрын

Do you have any tips to stop yarn from unraveling? Maybe my yarn is just cheap and bad quality, but the yarn never stays twisted, it uravels into individual strings while trying to crochet and as a beginner it makes it more confusing and it gets knotted 😭
@bellacococrochet Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately some yarn does just have a tendency to untwist in this way (particularly cotton yarn) and there isn't anything you can do to avoid it, except that reusing yarn a lot (crocheting and then unravelling) will make it worse. You may want to try a different yarn 😊
@Loki-in8pc2 жыл бұрын
I wanted to ask that is it necessary to stitch in the remaining yarn that’s left at the end? Can’t we just make a knot and cut the rest or will that affect the stitches?
@bellacococrochet2 жыл бұрын
You should sew in the ends of your yarn securely, I have a tutorial showing how to do that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKK7dpaHn8RjgpI 🙂 If you tie a knot only then you risk it coming undone and losing all of your stitches.
@taraleenorin14673 жыл бұрын
I can’t pull the yarn through the loop and the slip knot tightens around the tip of the needle.
@bellacococrochet3 жыл бұрын
You may be pulling too tightly on the slipknot; it should be fairly tight but still have some movement so that you can slide your hook through 😊 You can also pull down on the bottom of the slipknot as you yarn over and pull through, to create a little space.

Ok im still a lil confused. Why with this stitch is there those weirdly big holes near the turning stitch every few rows... Thats normal? That doesn't seem normal 🤔

In this example I'm classing the turning chain as a stitch which results in the gap that you mention - it's absolutely normal 😊 Some people like to ignore the turning chain and crochet their first stitch directly underneath it, which solves the gap but leaves the sides looking bumpy, so it's personal preference.

Does anybody know the purpose of weaving the ends in? I dont have darning needle, and my squares seem to be holding fine with just the knot. ^^

I would definitely recommend weaving the ends in if you can 😊 The knots may seem secure but they can easily come undone after a while and you will lose all of your hard work.
