lovely, hard to process this is some 20 plus years ago and sounds yet as fresh as a daisy unburdened by dew. Years fly over us like wings.

Yeah... awkward indeed. I do love that song (I’m Waking Up To Us) but it’s so weird seeing Stuart sing those words while Isobel, the person those lyrics are at least inspired by, is stood right by his side.

The best period of the band for me.

The input is so insipid yet the output is so incredibly powerful. Musical magic. The shoulda told Arab Strap though for sure - lose a point for that.

An arab strap is a sexual device usually made of leather and a metal ring that is fastened or cinched around a penis

Not Belle and Sebastian's best song for such a big moment in the spotlight IMO

What's with Jool's face at the end? I know that face, it's the "this act has been very difficult" face.
@chrisbrooker72603 жыл бұрын
Given they were having Fleetwood Mac or ABBA like internalissues that played out publicly in one of the songs in the performance, I’m not all that surprised he was a bit miffed by them.

@@chrisbrooker7260 do you mean when Campbell sat on the floor?
@chrisbrooker72603 жыл бұрын
Yes. I read somewhere that letting her do the little spoken word bit was the only way she’d agree to be on stage. Not surprising given the song is (most likely) about her
@cobeyc.b59463 жыл бұрын
@@chrisbrooker7260 That explains that! I was wondering if Jools could just read the awkward tension.
@brosephyolonarovichstalin29153 жыл бұрын
Or you’re all being really over deep and it’s because one of the last sentences/lyrics of the song is ‘ten biggest wanks’ Jools is the guy who gets the bollocking after the show for that. Maybe.

Danny Perfect Cos Isobell and Stuart were dating and split up and this song is about her and she’s there singing back in vocals

At least they didn't do Take Your Carriage Clock And Shove It which I think is also about them and possibly more cutting

And she has that little monologue at the break about how “it doesn’t matter if he’s not rich, as long as he’s not you” before sitting down and looking quite visibly upset. I read somewhere that giving the monologue was her price for going onstage when Stuart informed the band he wanted to play the song

Same interview Isabel said she was only 20 or so when this was happening, which Is pretty young to have to deal with your relationship woes being publicly exposed in such a way

Great song, TBWTAS, but he's ruined it now by accentuating/growling the word "racist." Don't ask me how that ruins it, you either get it or you don't.
@nathredwood Жыл бұрын
The fact that you think he’s accentuating/growling that word when he’s barely doing either tells me a lot about you and your relationship with the word. If you don’t like it maybe self reflection is a better idea than questioning an artists performance.
