The McKnight foundation, maintaining a healthy environment on the Mississippi River. After dumping industrial waste and contamination into ponds in Washington county and then siphoning it into the St. Croix river which flows into the Mississippi .. now there’s phosphorus pollution everywhere. thanks 3M

Had the settlers sat down and talked with the Native Americans about the land (and heeded them) the natives could have given them some lessons in ecosystems which would have been some of the same conclusions that were come to at the end of the documentary.

Living with the reality of decisions that our ancestors made is what we see when we use our hindsight vision. Fixing those problems are the challenge of those who try to improve on the misguided advise and consequences. Wisdom comes from experience and finding solutions to difficult human survival and prosperity problems. We are a young country and we too share a roll in making decisions that will affect our offspring and future generations. I wonder what their hindsight vision will be.

there are people here in MINN that have lived here for 10s of thousands of wears that had great wisdom but we killed them women and children all, we took their children and put them prisoner of war camps called boarding schools. the land was not used for profit is was tended to feed and house humans the very thought of owning and selling was said to be an offence to the creator and did not promise that the next generations would have food and shelter.

I just saw a document flash by that said Isaak Walton. As a kid my family would go to a private Isaak Walton Park by the Minnesota river. Omg I'll never forget those huge cottonwood trees growing back in there. I wonder if that park still exists

I do not think that one guy meant decimate the forests. That would mean just taking 10%. I think he meant to say annihilate.

In France in a region called the moors (Les Landes), in 1830, it was infested with mosquitoes, and it was marshes, they decided to plant pines and manage the forest, and since then it has been the main income of the region and the biggest manage forest in Europe.

You're telling a story in the northern midwest, yet you're using a music theme that doesnt represent the area. We're not in the moonshine mountains of tennessee here.

The music represents a time period mostly, in which MN also experienced. I heard nothing that sounded like it was from the moon shine mountains of TN unless you think people only played banjos and mandolins in the south, which would be very incorrect. The saloons of MN were filled with this kind of music. Some Tennesseans even moved north.

I enjoyed watching this video but with great irony. The things portrayed as atrocities to "nature" are the times I've relished my whole life. Taming the land and subduing the earth as God directed us to do is what I see as prosperity. Now-that's not to say we should clear cut everything in sight. Wherever there is mankind there is opportunity for sin and improvement in our actions. But the settling of the land is a much greater accomplishment than worshipping "nature" as a god. But it should be done with purpose and thoughtfulness.

"In 1889, Ojibwe across northern Minnesota were forced to cede their reservation lands in exchange for individual allotments of 80 to 160 acres." ("Were forced." Yes, let's use the passive voice here to completely remove the perpetrators from this historical crime.) "Of the original half million acres the Ojibwe held, they would keep only a tiny fraction--just 11,000 acres." (Again, let's not get into who did this or what any Ojibwe have to say on the matter.) "The allotment of the Leech Lake reservation opened up more than 200,000 acres of virgin forest..." (Woo hoo! Opened up, baby! Progress for the people who actually matter, amiright???)

the 11000 acres have been taken also over the years and still the natives are fighting to save what little they have with pipe lines going through their land up north through forest.

The fck you talking about? How about sovereign nations tax free, casinos, have their own laws when it comes to hunting and fishing...lands have been taken over all over the world...they've been more than compensated. Times have changed!
