I've only rung at Moseley once and that was years ago at a st martins guild open day When the new sixteen at the bullring were ringing.

When I rang there I left covered in fragments of rust. I can't say it was a pleasant experience.

Being rung together they sounded very unusual, but on their own they sounded alright

Yes - t'is me in me 'andsome days! I'd forgotten about this. I do remember ringing on them just after they were done up. Some of the old bell bolts had lost most of their diameter to rust.

The word hells bell springs to mind. What ever possessed them to cast bells in steel. Not exactly a decent Taylor peal.

They’re outside the church somekind of a museum outside. On this video year, Later on abit of couple years at Moseley church, the tenor fell off the headstock. Which was very sad😢. And it’s sad to see those steel bells on head stocks I think

They should have kept those bells greased or painted every year and they would have not rusted so badly. A good lubricant oil all over the bells wiped periodically would have helped. The gravelly sound is coming from the rust also.

These were made of steel, and demonstrate nicely why bells are usually bronze (or nearly bronze, bellmetal has a bit more tin in it).
