That’s where I first heard this cover too. It actually helped convince me to watch the Handmaid’s Tale. I really feel a duality towards it. Fascinating in some ways but really uncomfortable to watch sometimes. When I first saw it, I was profoundly grateful that society isn’t like it and that’s it only fictional. I was also inspired to read the original book version the the Testaments. The latter I found quite impressive. The way “Daisy” gave the perspective of a normal teenager in the civilised world, albeit with very restrictive “parents” though understandable given the circumstances in contrast to the other two major characters actually rather realistic. Agnes was a fascinating insight into the lives of females born (or at least raised) into Gilead to grow up knowing nothing else and thus mostly ignorant of just how restrictive and oppressive being a female in Gilead is because she’s been kept ignorant about how the rest of the world has a system that is far less brutal than Gilead’s where women are very mostly equal to men. As a result Agnes is painfully naive, ignorant and weak. But by far the most interesting character is Aunt Lydia. Born free but ended up being trapped in Gilead. A complex individual. Well educated, experienced and wise. A valuable high ranking partial founder that helped create and maintain the women’s division of Gilead. I have a hunch that she almost relentlessly abuses the Handmaids to break them down so they can be partially rebuilt to be compliant with the regime and not be killed. But given that she was tortured into being an Aunt I sympathise with her despite her bad things she’s done.
