Honestly, with the recent announcement of the upcoming expansions, there are two details that may have seemed little or nothing, but that would have another meaning now. - The whisper "The king of diamonds has been made a pawn": Magni is known to be the bearer and voice of Azeroth. And well, maybe that whisper didn't mean that Magni became a pawn of Void, but rather that he became a pawn of Order (Titan). - Sylvanas's phrase about "This world is a prison!": Considering the logo for the expansion "The Last Titan", you can see that Azeroth is in a kind of prison. Therefore, metaphorically, it can be said that Azeroth is a prison.

There is absolutely zero evidence that the voice(s) Magni hears is Azeroth. The method he took to become a diamond was of Titan origin, not Azerothian. Great video. I really appreciate all of your lore vids, however, as someone who just recently jumped back into WoW with Classic Season of Discovery and also retail patch 10.2, I'm trying to catch up on everything I've missed story-wise since TBC. and, I gotta say... I'm still quite lost overall😅. I wish there were a concise series that could get me caught up on the ENTIRE 'story thus far', starting from the stories and cutscenes of OG classic then covering everything sequentially from patch to patch, season to season, and expansion to expansion, all the way up to present day. I haven't seen anything of the sort on KZbin tbh, there's plenty of in-depth lore, Azeroth histories and mythologies videos, but what about the actual story recap? I believe this could be a task for Bellular. 😉 Anyway, love your channels, keep up the good work!

@ahealthkit274511 ай бұрын
There's a lot of videos that delve into the actual lore of each expansion, but the game really does struggle to have a cohesive story pre-WOD/Legion-era Wow, IMO. Most of the stories are told subtly, through quest text and item info and npc dialogue, but the story becomes more gradually more cinematic after Cataclysm. Now the important stories are happening in cutscenes and stuff. It's a major improvement but the game's story has always struggled to be concise and cohesive. I hope the Worldsoul Saga links the expansions together in a way that really helps with that problem.

For the Tl;dr: Cata he convinced Varian to spare Moira and instate the Council of Three Hammers in Ironforge, Mists he got lost on Pandaria, Befriended Wrathion, and almost got killed by Garrosh; Legion he became King after Varian's Death at the Broken Shore and by the end obtained Shalymane from the spot where Gul'dan obliterated Varian; BFA he took in Night Elf and Gilnean refugees after Sylvanas burned Teldrassil, leading to the invasion (and destruction) of The Undercity, followed by formally inducting the Kul Tirans into the Alliance and invading Zandalar and Killing King Rhastakan then inciting a successful rebellion against Sylvanas with Overlord Saurfang, then in Shadowlands he was abducted by Sylvanas and taken to the Maw where he was tortured and Shalymane was corrupted by the Jailer with Domination Magic so he could use Anduin as an unwilling pawn, since we freed him from the Jailer's control he's been wandering.

The transition of Azeroth being used for a kingdom to the entire planet and then the being within the planet seems very much in allegory for the storytelling style that leads blizzard. In a way that nothing is permanent and is transitionary. For me as a dungeon master in tabletop RPGs that has to create settings for players, I like to keep things consistent for them. Sometimes it's great to be very creative and exploring. Different ideas are wonderful. Button and inconsistent story breeds confusion in audiences.

16:08 - This is the part I don't understand. It was never explained in game. In the Legion expansion, one of the main quests mentioned that all the Titans are dead, that Sargeras killed them. And then you tell the main characters, and they are shocked and feel like we are alone because of this. And then the last raid of the expansion comes, and somehow the Titans appear out of the blue around the last boss. Alive. And nobody questions that or explains how are they alive. I never heard or read anyone saying that the Titans somehow saved their souls by somehow sending them to Azeroth. Or how their revival worked. Or what triggered it.
@laertesindeed11 ай бұрын
@ShadowTheHedgehog So..... unfortunately you are falling victim to the classic blunder of not distinguishing "objective narrative" from "unreliable narrator statements" and subsequently confusing yourself by pretending one was the other. The questline in the early patches of Legion was "NOT" an objective outside narrative establishing something that happened. It was Khadgar being told something third hand by a character who was factually mistaken.....and then Khadgar reacting the way he would when he believes something. We were never "shown" any objective evidence for the titans being dead....it was simply an opinion of a mortal construct who lost contact with any Titans and assumed the worst. This mistaken assumption served the writers of Legion by giving them breathing room to not spoil their plans for having a raid called Antorus which they would eventually release many months after the mistaken questline you mention. And the writers believed that since their plan was to have some of the major named Titans imprisoned and tortured by Sargeras in the raid......this would explain why it seemed like they were dead to the people who lost contact with such Titans and were not having their messages answered, so to speak. There was, by the way, an entire story campaign with Magni and Turalyon and Alleria leading up to Argus in Legion that gradually reveals that Argus is a world soul in pain, and that Aggramar still exists and is corrupted in flame without his will.....and even has a small clip which reveals to us that the major Titan souls are being held in the torture chamber. These particular story campaign reveals are "shown" ....in the objective narrative sense, not just dialogue claims by unreliable narrator characters telling about such developments.
@ahealthkit274511 ай бұрын
@@laertesindeed Yeah, I remember this bit of the story only because of raiding Antorus a lot when it was relevant content.
@ShadowTheHedgehogCZ11 ай бұрын
@@laertesindeed I am pretty sure the revelation the Titans were dead came from the fragment of Xare that talked to the player, not from Khadgar. And it wasn't unreliable narrator, as it wasn't false as Bellular now states. Titans did die. It's just we were not told about their resurrection or how or when that happened. I remember the questline with Magni on Argus now. Yeah, Aggramar was shown to be alive. Maybe even other Titans were mentioned. But I remember that from the way it was worded, it made no sense to me back then. If Magni and the other major lore characters learned that Titans are somehow alive, I would think they would make a bigger deal out of it than just one passing line in a dialog with Magni. And that they would wonder how it's possible. But it was just skimmed as something that is barely important.
@laertesindeed11 ай бұрын
@@ShadowTheHedgehogCZ No.... once again, you are mistaken. You are now also fibbing about what I said. I did not say that Khadgar was the source of anything, I said Khadgar was responding to the unreliable narrator claim that got passed to him. He "NEVER" saw the titans being dead and had no evidence of it ever happening. Nor did we the player character "EVER" see the titans dead nor ever at any point have any evidence that the titans were dead. Quite literally, we were told a claim by an unreliable narrator. You are wrong, and you are making the mistake of pretending that you have objectivity about an event that was never objective in the narrative. You typing "the titans did die" is false. I'm sorry that you are having trouble with reading comprehension in video game narratives, but you really must face the music.
@ShadowTheHedgehogCZ10 ай бұрын
@@laertesindeedwhat the hell is fibbing? And who's the pretentious one here? I literally say what I know, you while you elevate your understanding. And it doesn't matter in the slightest if we were being lied to about the Titans being dead. That's not my point. My point was that our character and the important characters in the lore that we closely interact with like Magni, Khadgar or Velen believed Titans were killed. The we learn they were not, and none of these characters seem to want to elaborate on something that major. That's weird. It's not about me, or about me being inferior in your absolute lore understanding. It's about how the story is presented and how the characters behave.

His motivations have shifted over the years. Originally he just wanted the Well of Eternity because it was a big magical beacon. But with the added content in Legion, I'd say his motivations are probably to stop the planet from becoming a void titan. I don't think that's really the plot now, though. I mean, the repercussions of him stabbing the planet was an outflowing of Azerite, which is pretty heavily implied to be the blood of the planet. I assume he intended to fatally wound her, but we managed to stifle her bleeding in BFA. I assume he probably has the same M.O. now, but maybe we'll find out that he did it to stop the titans from controlling Azeroth somehow.

He destroyed Argus which had literally nothing to do with the Void
@ahealthkit274511 ай бұрын
@@NoConsequenc3 He was using Argus to imprison the titans. The Antorus raid has a lot of environmental storytelling that tells you this, but you find Aggramar after being corrupted ala Sargeras in the raid, we also run into Freya, and we also fight the corrupt worldsoul of Argus as the final boss of that raid. Not to mention, the imprisoned titans are 'freed' at the end of the raid, which is why Sargeras gets a reversal done on him and why he's imprisoned now.

@@NoConsequenc3 Also, Argus is/was the staging ground for the entire Legion. It was the 'key' to his infinite empire of FUCK THE VOID. (Although TBH, I'm still not even sure that IS his motivation, it's just what has been given to us over the years that I'm sure Blizz will eventually decide to change)

i think azeroth will turn out to be a mixture of ALL cosmic forces. which will then be corrupted by flesh. it will be our titan/mother, azeroth will spawn more of the flesh cursed cosmic force merged powerful beeings. us.

Void Lords don't make plans. They use the Spaghetti Noodle method. They throw a whole bunch of old god seeds out into the universe and wait to see which ones stick. Blizzard had a chance to write an original villain in Shadowlands. Instead what we got is a pasty version of Right Said Fred. Life, Death and Order. The perfect trinity. Any other combo leads to a hellscape.

the naaru are more akin to the light version of old gods. titans are aligned with order and the arcane, which is directly opposed to disorder and fel, ie the burning legion.

with all due respect but the main problem with wow is not the lore, we blame our frustration and boredom on the lore.....in reality it's the gameplay that has changed, the epic music, the exploration of azeroth, finally dropping an item after a lot of effort... currently I see a very simplified children's game, people find this boring and don't play anymore. But then he sees season of discovery as the real novelty, the true soul of wow, modified with simple additions but still wow remains, and then everyone starts playing SOD.

@@deenman23 Almost everything around Shadowlands, the dreadlords being created by and in service of Denathrius rather than Sargeras and the Legion, the Jailer's existence and his deep involvement into so many parts of the previous lore and how it weakened established characters such Kel'Thuzad, Ner'zul and Arthas and their motivations and agency. Draenei backstory back in TBC that was retconned by mistske, Sylvanas supposedly serving the Jailer since the end of Wotlk, etc etc. Many fall under the "recontextualization" category which is the same shit but with more wiggle room for deniability. I mean for shadowlands the narrative was dogshit, but the actual lore was far better. The hailer isn't even the jailer, the primus is the jailer and the jailer was his device to test out what would happen if they were to take azeroth. The jailer was being controlled with domination magic by the primus himself, even the leaked jailer concept art looks more like the primus and not zovaal, plus zovaal has domination runes all over his body, and in the cutscene where the primus talks to him towards the end during his flashback, zovaal is the one being chained and we don't see the primus, plus it feels like the moment he is dying, he is just continuing his speech that he started like million years ago during that cutscene since that's when the domination magic wore off from him and he returned to his actual self
