All the women's groups in the 90's were a great inspiration and strength for us all. Shakespeare's Sister, the Sundays, the Breeders and so much more. I have to give them all the credit they deserve, for helping me become a very strong woman, today.

This isn't Grunge. It's adult alternative at best. Melvins are Grunge. I love it tho.

Thick chorus warble effect, as heard here and in some of Nirvana's and Screaming Tree's songs, is grunge style guitar.
@AuburnJunky3 жыл бұрын
@@Dulcimerist it's arguable that most of post Bleach Nirvana wasn't grunge. They stayed true to their roots sure. That was their appeal. They did branch out tho.

When I think of Tanya, when I think of Belly, the very last thing that crosses my mind is grunge. The harder elements of their sound are descendants of punk and completely unrelated to that dreadful punk dirge scene.

I'm so glad that 4AD decided to release this and so many other great videos from the 90's. So much of the music from that era would be totally lost without reissues like this.

I have always loved this album. Saw them at the Tulip Festival in Albany NY In 93 I believe. Recently had a conversation with an acquaintance about music. Told her the 90's were my favorite period for music. She asked for examples. Belly was one of the bands I used. She had her 14 year old daughter sample some songs. Belly has a new fan. Pretty cool.

+tornnomar Hands down my favorite album of all time. I had it in my CD player (literally) for a solid year from the day of it's release. In 20 years, I haven't gone more than a few weeks without listening to it. It is an old friend at this point.

This and perhaps 1-2 other songs should have been MTV staples. Even before I found out it was Glyn John's (Who's Next) produced, I really thought it had a real big powerful WHO sound to it. Winter / Spring 95 , cover of Rolling Stone etc . I really thought Belly were going to make a big splash. They certainly gave it they're all.

Back in the day, you were at the mercy of the D.J. if they announced the name of the song or artist.... otherwise the song would bounce around in your head for many years, and find it by chance on here one year.

I had this CD because I ordered it as part of my BMG subscription. Loved it but never heard of this band anywhere else. It was like my little secret. No one at school knew about them. They weren’t on TV from what I could tell (we didn’t have cable so if they were on MTV chances are I missed it). Never saw them on display in brick and mortar record stores either. I remembered the album and looked it up on KZbin a couple weeks ago after having all but forgotten about the band. Now I’ve been listening to this over and over again.

First time I heard this song was on 120 Minutes. My parents were divorced and I only had cable at my dad's house, who I only saw every other weekend. I was 14 and all people talked about at school was MTV so I'd cram it all in when I could. This song came on and I'd never heard anything like it. It blew me away. People only get maybe five songs that hit them like that in their entire life, and most of the time it happens when we're younger. This was one of them. I'd never heard anything like it and to this day I still haven't. This was the next cd I bought and believe it or not, I bought it from Wal Mart

Belly never made it as a 'band' because there wasn't a visible band behind her. There didn't necessarily need to be, but that's why they never became big, as a band.
