The lawyer for the library made some convincing arguments last week. Let’s all remember that there is NOT a Supreme Court case protecting indoor audits. This is a BAD case because there are cases that protect library goers from having their reading materials made public by libraries. If libraries allowed them to record inside, then the libraries would also have to allow the FBI, etc. to do the same. I think we need to leave libraries alone. Post offices and police stations are better indoor audits.

As a fellow paraplegic who needs unloading space, police ARE ALLOWED to LEGALLY use accessible parking if they are on an active call. I agree it is absolutely ridiculous as there are people who need the parking, but they are also not breaking the law if they're on an active call. Unfortunately the same thing applies to security officers. If by chance there isn't an active call and LEO's use accessible parking they are then breaking the law. Libraries are LIMITED public forums, not open commons like sidewalks and parks. While you are typically free to film employees and the interior of the building in most libraries, you are NOT free to film patrons who have a legitimate expectation of privacy, nor are you allowed to film the back offices or librarians who are engaged in activities involving privacy, such as creating new patron accounts or checking out materials where a patron's personal information might be on the screen. This is well-established legal precedent and YOU should really make more of an effort to understand the law. Running afoul of the stated mission and charter of the library can lead to being trespassed, but often most auditors come in, ask what the actual policy is, and upon hearing it comprehend its purpose while they film what they want within those guidelines, then leave without incident.
