In today's video we take a look through my collection of vintage Belmont and Tower paperbacks. Not exactly the best looking books ever made but they are quirky and on the whole, cheap to collect. They also have a decent selection of science fiction and some better authors; Harlan Ellison, Philip K. Dick, Philip Jose Farmer, Robert Block, Harry Whittingham, Lin Carter and many more.

LOVED this video, I still have that Ellison 'Doomsman', sold the Malzberg (it's in a Stark House omnibus now), some nice SF anthologies there- that 'Metal Smile' was cool...and the names to watch there are Kris Neville who is underrated and fascinating and Mack Reynolds, who was famous for being the most notably Socialist SF writer of his time in the USA- his Utopian novels are especially good but there are some hoots like 'Galactic Medal of Honour' arguably the best title in the history of silly SF titles- and yes, I've read it...

I have a complete collection of PKD's novels and short stories. The only Belmont-Tower book I have is Time Out of Joint. It's in high grade and I keep it in a Mylar sleeve!

I have the Shadow ones, the Miss from SIS series, and the superhero ones. I have some of the Lady from LUST series also. The Gardner Fox sword and sorcery series (at least one of the novels) was done as Conan a comic story with the permission of the author by Marvel comics back in the seventies.

My giant TBR stacks of vintage SF/F/H paperbacks include a bunch of these! That Harlan Ellison Doomsman double novel is a keeper--for collectors, if not Harlan himself--though it can be had (here in the US) for $6-$10.

I've read "The Mutants" by Kris Neville and can confirm it is NOT a lost masterwork. I gave it 3/5 because it was enjoyable but most people rate it lower.

The very best review of “packaged tat” I have ever seen, some of the jackets were awful but brilliant and the Starship Enterprise with added marshmallows made me laugh out loud. I never even considered collecting paperbacks before watching your videos but now cannot stop. Trying to stick to a theme but it is very difficult!

Same publishers but the very best covers were selected though. They did also publish a lot of awful jackets.

JULES, The Killing is a gem. It was the novel that Stanley Kubrick used for his third film - The Killing. James Harris - Kubrick's partner- picked the book up from a New York bookshop. Good health, Dennis.

1:54 can you imagin finding that book on an air port spin rack ? Eando Binder were two brothers ( so i am told ) . Some were abridge ? How dare they . Ellisons are cool . Thanks for the info , i too heard that it was an early sleeze that he hated. I collect The Shadow along with Doc Savage . O the cover art and the blurb on some of those books

Interesting Jules you pause and have a thoughtful look at 11.27 the book phycogeist by l p Davies . It looked familiar to me too … it is exactly the same cover as manor uk publication if Philip k dick’s “ now wait for last year” I don’t know anything about manor … maybe they had links to Belmont tower!?
