True roots?What the Brits call Morris dancing orginated in Italy in the middle ages first appearing in Blighty in the 15th century. This pseudo pagan goth stuff is a performance.

Good to see and I remember a time of all-male dancers... not that I'm complaining. It's great that women have taken up the cudgels. I recall that the sticks were symbol of something. Glad the women have taken it in hand.

There's more Morris ladies than men nowadays...

@@markwitts That's one way of keeping alive. I also remember boys clog and hornpipe dancing. It's like we despise and have abandoned our culture in favour of something cool like hanging around a bus stop with cheap cider and an iPhone. Where I live the culture, dress, dance, song, history is firmly welded in, and no one scoffs at it. (You can tell, I'm a grumpy old guy!)

I think that's a lot of their attraction, leggy ladies in dress - more appealing than men only in bells..

❤Hi friends, in Italy in Sicily, we have something of similar, where the dancers are fighting between them, not with brooms but with falses swords. The name of this dance, is Tatarata'. 😊🎉❤
