Belton, Texas. UMHB. What to See, Where to Eat, What to Do

Back in the early 80s; I lived in Belton with my 2 sisters and mom. One of the things that we liked to do was go to UMHB to play tennis and have a picnic.

Thank you. This brings back so many childhood memories. Oh yeah. I attended Tyler elementary for 1st & 2nd grades before it was replaced by HEB. I believe that it was on Main Street and across the First Baptist Church. I lived on North Pearl. 😊

Also Ricky Sanders who played for the Tigers went on to play in the NFL

@@askdadagain Yeah I was there when he played. He went on to play with the Washington Redskins and took them to the Superbowl. Ricky Sanders was the Greatest Athlete to come out Belton High. There were others like David Warehyme and Willy Russel that were phenomenal but never made it to the top. All three players were great in execution and team comradery which I will never forget!

I much prefer the old english, scottish, Irish village look and you don't get that anywhere in texas. I wonder why, I can't put my finger on it but Iguess it's because it's a young county and because it's so dry over there. It's such a huge state though with over 26 million people. I think you'd need to rich to want to move there and live, it looks like it might be expensive over there.

Hey great name! That is a great question, this is what I found on Wikipedia about Belton's name origin. Belton was first settled 1850 and named Nolanville, taking the name of nearby Nolan Springs which were named for Texan explorer Philip Nolan. In 1851, it changed its name to Belton after being named the county seat of newly created Bell County named after Peter Hansborough Bell, the Governor of Texas at that time. In 1860, the population was 300, the largest in the county

The middle of nowhere texas

No. It's actually in the middle somewhere. 20 minutes from Kileen , 15 mins from Temple about 50 minutes from Austin. Close to 2 good fishing lakes. And this small city is growing fast which is always a good thing. Like the growth of independent restaurants and brew pubs. One of the small to medium cites along the I-35 corridor between Dallas and San Antonio all of them growing in population and job growth.
