They sound like cooing, happy babies. I like that this facility is partnered with NOAA and dedicated to aquatic animal rescue, rehab and release. Some animals while in their care help educate the public about their species, the need for conservation, the efforts being made and what more needs to be done. So no, this isn’t a typical “cage the wildlife” zoo, that would be the kind I vehemently oppose. If an animal can’t be released due to permanent illness, injury or an inability to survive, the facility provides a safe, lifetime environment for them. In many instances orphaned babies are rescued who would otherwise quickly die in the wild. Due to their age and development when rescued, they imprint on humans, rendering some unable to adapt to a returned life in the wild. Regardless, I still prefer they be given the chance to live. Every living thing has a purpose, even if we don’t agree with it, like it or even recognize it. So here’s looking at you, sweet belugas. You make me want to sing Baby Beluga over and over until someone punches me in the face to stop it😂

If I found a wild animal, I would care for it as best as I can. If I can't keep it, I would release it. If it can't survive in the wild, well then it's mine to keep. ​@@ZsaZsaUmbrathese guys weren't purchased illegally. I know 2 of the 3 came from Chicago. Howevetlr, Mystic Aquarium does indeed partner with wildlife organizations to rescue, rehab, and release. I live about an hour away, and locals here know that if we see a seal or turtle beached or acting strangely, we're not to touch it but to call Narr Bay organization or the aquarium, stay near it to keep people away until they can get here, wait for them. We see on the news the otters, seals, turtles when they release them

The Canaries of the Sea! It's so easy to see why they're called that, or rather hear it. They're beautiful animals and it's great to see humans genuinely caring for them with such a fun a gentle rapport between them. It's just so sad that a facility like that is required because of the humans who live outside of its premises. The warmer the climate gets, the sooner these creatures and many like them will die out in the wild, because their prey requires cold water to thrive. It may sound counterintuitive but the colder waters are the ones with the richest food stocks. This applies to our sea food, too. It won't be long before sea fish will be too expensive for us to buy. What remains of our fishing fleets, even those which actually fish responsibly (no dragnets wrecking the seafloor, or no nets at all, just lines) won't find anything to catch. It wasn't long back that cod all but disappeared from our shops for a few years because it had almost been totally fished out of the N Atlantic. We were eating coley in its place, but that's now gone. It was only because of an effective ban on cod fishing that the species recovered. But now it's not just overfishing that's wrecking the numbers, it's the lack of their food. This will affect so many species that many will just go, irrespective of how many places there are like this.

Most people have very narrow perspective, these beluga whale are more than happy to be taken care of; given free food and a safe shelter.They have much harder life in the wild and they are probably not willing to leave

they are wild animals who are used to travel miles and miles in the sea daily, they need space and freedom. im not sure if this is a rescue place or not, but most whales (killer whales, dolphins and belugas alike) are taken as babies from their pods and families to zoos and aquariums for human entertainment. that is not cool. whales are very intelligent, needy and special animals that should not be in captivity like this. if these whales were released into wild though, they most likely could not survive on their own which is very sad, because they have not learnt to hunt fish. we should not normalize that keeping these animals in small pools is okay. its definitely not.

​@@allitus they don't normally travel long distance unless there's lack of food (otherwise it's a huge waste of energy) This aquarium is in the US where it is illegal to capture wild cetaceans so most of those in captivity are either born there, rescue or captured before the law (more than 20 years ago which make their release not viable). This enclosure in particular has a proper size for these animals and they get enrichment. It is not all for entertainment. Most of these places tend to collaborate in research projects (almost everything we currently know about marine mammals actually comes from captive animals and it is being apply in the wild with rescues), there's also an important part for education (people visiting can learn about these animals by reading the signs, asking to the educators or trainers, going to the educational talks, etc). Lot of things still need to change and improve but we will slowly get in there by asking these places to improve, not to just close down having no other place for these animals.

@@charlesthomas5956 "helpless????" lmao, these are not dogs. these are highly intelligent animals that are able to hunt and seek for food just fine. they are much happier in their natural environment and endless sea. did you also know that belugas travel 6000 km each year? i understand keeping small endangered reptiles or rodents in captivity since its easier to provide the space and environment for them, but for such a huge and intelligent animal like beluga .. its not ideal at all. so basically how about you check your facts instead, the permit conditions prohibit the aquariums from breeding the whales and im very glad they do. just like you, i hate people that go "oh i must be right because i think so" without checking any facts or doing a background check on the aquarium in this very video.

Why didn’t you mention the part where one of their belugas recently died after transport from marine land? (Watch blackfish to learn what a terrible place that is) I’ve been to mystic Aquarium many times- the beluga exhibit is really depressing- they hardly swim, often times are stationary and the tank itself while large, is nothing compared to their natural habitat. I wish for an end to this trade. Thanks for the cute video, at least they seem happy here. But when a small tank is all they know, it’s easy to force an image like this.

The film paints a distorted picture that withholds... key facts about SeaWorld-among them... that SeaWorld rescues, rehabilitates and returns to the wild hundreds of wild animals every year, and that SeaWorld commits millions of dollars annually to conservation and scientific research. SeaWorld also responded with an open letter rebutting the claims. The Oceanic Preservation Society and The Orca Project, a non-profit organization focusing on orca in captivity, responded with open letters criticizing SeaWorld's claims. Marine researcher Debbie Giles also offered rebuttals to SeaWorld, finding its assertions inaccurate. SeaWorld considers the film to be propaganda. On December 31, 2013, the Orlando Business Journal posted a poll asking if Blackfish had changed readers' opinions on SeaWorld. The majority of votes stated that the film had not. It was later found that 180 out of 328 votes (55%) originated from a single SeaWorld-hosted IP address. SeaWorld defended the voting, stating that "each of the votes that came from a SeaWorld domain were cast by team members who are passionate about the incredible work SeaWorld does and the experiences our parks provide."
