I believe you could put this in a museum as art. Especially given the background of trucks and how static they've been for so long. If this sells well (not talking pre-orders), it will vastly change the landscape of truck design from this point, and it will be incredible to look back on in 20-50 years from now given how hard it was to even accomplish in it's time.

Almost surreal that they really put this thing into production. The Ford truck looks like from the 90's compared to the Cybertruck. The most important part about this design is that it's very simple while being futuristic and unique. Good designs today are usually somewhat traditional/simple, while futuristic ones are overstyled, but the combination of futuristic and simple is very rare nowadays.

Bring up an on-line inflation calculator: $40,000 base Cybertruck in 2018 would be $49,000 today. So almost 1/2 of the base price increase is inflation. Then consider that Tesla historically drops prices after production has ramped. A lot of R&D went into this truck, and I expect the real beneficiaries will be owners of the low cost car currently in development. Just as the real beneficiaries of the Model S R&D are the Model 3 / Model Y owners.

It's 4 years since its announcement, and they had to build a new factory for it which finished in 2022, plus we had a global pandemic on top of that. Also, let's not forget that they are still restricted from battery cells, and they had to prioritize the Model Y's production which is the best selling vehicle on the planet (including ICE). Every other company would have needed at least 5-7 years on top of what Tesla took, if they were even able to make a beast like the CT in the first place (which they can't).

I was a landscape/ construction foreman for a long time, and we built huge, top notch projects, all over the state. For guys like us, 440 miles of range just wouldn't cut it! Especially when you consider were towing a gooseneck trailer with a front end loader or similar..... and we have lots of electric tools we're gonna want to run all day... So I'd really really like to see an option of buying stackable lithium batteries you can put in the bed and on trailer to extend the range out to 600 miles plus charging. That would probably make the difference as to whether or not we'd have purchased. Now I work in Healthcare, but I'm just saying. 440 will be a deal breaker for a lot of contractors who need to go to job sites that are an hour and a half away, which was the norm for pretty much every landscape, construction, especially maintenance vehicles, which maintenence are the most common, and you're driving to 5 job sites from orange county to long Beach to Newport, to back because a customer needed something. Need max range!

If you ever want Tesla to get you a car to review, i suggest for your next video you review whats IN the car and what it can do as opposed to how it looks. The 48 Volt architecture is a game changer in the auto industry. Cybertruck requires 1/4 the wiring that any other car this big would need because of it. The Steer by Wire is a first for a mass produced car as well. There is NO physical connection from the steering wheel to the tires. at low speeds it can corner like a go kart, and on highways the tires turns together to change lanes smoothly. There is SO much new tech in this thing it boggles the mind.

You hook back your trailer and then this happens at least twice because your traveling around 300 miles. Then you finally get to your destination unhook your trailer and the truck traveling with you is playing off-road you want play too but you struggle to go up a simple hill while the truck your with is long gone up that hill then you finally make it up and now you see a muddy patch while the other truck has drove through it already and then you think you can drive through the muddy patch too and try to go through it but get stuck and dig in so deep and your soo heavy that no one can pull you out the other truck laughing at you and all you can do is cry and say " well at least I'm faster than you!!" while it's doing donuts around you

It looks like the concept but engineering wise it’s not what they said it to be. For example, Musk said the outer stainless panels act as the frame of the truck but now the panels are just for show and probably glued on stamped sheet metal parts. It’s also very heavy just like any other EV. Specs are impressive but with a huge battery and 3 motors, you could do that with anything. It will be interesting to see how many reservations actually convert into reality. Many people made a reservations just to appear ’cool’ but had no intention or the money to actually buy it.
@jamesengland7461

The stainless exterior is still structural. They always were going to have to have stamped inner structure for the door jambs, for example, in order to fit doors, and inner structures to mount suspension, the floor battery pack, and door inners. These all integrate with the stainless panels and provide industry-leading structural stiffness and all the features needed to make a complete vehicle. It was never going to be possible to have a single exterior layer, or you'd just have a leaky, rattly cheap metal box.

@@jamesengland7461 but the panels are like in any other vehicle, only difference is that it’s more complicated to bond 2 different materials together. The hood and fenders are only decoration, just like in every car. Maybe the doors act as structural parts because of the stainless skin but that’s about it. It’s hard to believe that this method could be more efficient than stamping and spot welding parts together. Stainless is not the easiest material to work with and it looks horrible after a few years. But maybe that’s part of the charm for people who buy these.

I can recomment Hagerty's review. The Cybertruck just follows the rule: Design follows function in the most extreme way. They had to make the body minimalistic, because you cannot shape the stainless steel panels like modern panels, which are a specific alloy. Its amazing how much innovation and forward-thinking this specific car has. 48 Volt electric system to save copper wiring. Steer-by-wire like in an airplane, speed-adaptive steering. 4 wheel steering, new battery-technology, driving dynamics, etc..list goes on. New tech is always risky, but i guess, some of the concepts will set new standards in automotive history. Its a cool car which does maybe not look good (i personally like it), but impresses with its inner values...

you seriously have no clue. It's design over function. Especially since most customers wont even need a pick up truck. The future of mobility is not build 3 tons heavy pick ups that people drive on free ways. A function of a car is also be safe. This is a step back into the 1970s. Where the car is fine after an accident but the passengers are all dead.

Will be interesting as Sketchmonkey said if the Cybertruck does well if it will encourage other manufacturers to be more adventurous. I was thinking this with the lack of a rear windscreen on the Polestar 4. What I like about Cybertruck is its Tesla finally not playing it conservative to Vanilla with its design. I'd love to see Cybertruck influence future models since the Tesla fanbase/customers seem open to whatever they produce.

A true "clean sheet" design exercise not only for the body forms but for the chassis engineering as well. Quantum leaps in design doesn't happen very often but I do see some parallels in architecture, Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion and FL Wright's Falling Water House and Guggenheim Museum. Now that Tesla has come this far I would think they can keep the radical engineering thinking on their next project- the $25K EV. They will really have to develop low-cost, high volume production to be able to make it for a profit. Mega cast chassis and no body paint? It could be a really interesting future.

If the special equipment and material required to make Cybertruck is amortized over the 2 million pre-orders, then factor in the reduced labor costs with the new "bench assembly" method - it's estimated the cost to produce each of the first 2 million trucks is $25k. Sold for $45k it would wipe out the pick up market. Elon repeatedly states he does NOT want to eliminate others - so that sets prices. He is demonstrating what is needed in Time (10 years) and initial investments ($2 Billion) to make profitable EVs.

What specs are incredible other than the 0-60, which is just about the least useful spec for a truck? It gets less range than the competitors electric trucks. The base model tows less than a Colorado, a midsized truck. The top of the line only equals a Rivian in towing, which was never intended to be a work truck. ICE Silverado and F150 trucks that are half the price beat it in towing and HD trucks totally dominate it.
