Especially when you consider were towing a gooseneck trailer with a front end loader or similar..... and we have lots of electric tools we're gonna want to run all day... So I'd really really like to see an option of buying stackable lithium batteries you can put in the bed and on trailer to extend the range out to 600 miles plus charging. That would probably make the difference as to whether or not we'd have purchased. Now I work in Healthcare, but I'm just saying. 440 will be a deal breaker for a lot of contractors who need to go to job sites that are an hour and a half away, which was the norm for pretty much every landscape, construction, especially maintenance vehicles, which maintenence are the most common, and you're driving to 5 job sites from orange county to long Beach to Newport, to back because a customer needed something. The 48 Volt architecture is a game changer in the auto industry. Cybertruck requires 1/4 the wiring that any other car this big would need because of it. The Steer by Wire is a first for a mass produced car as well. There is NO physical connection from the steering wheel to the tires. at low speeds it can corner like a go kart, and on highways the tires turns together to change lanes smoothly. There is SO much new tech in this thing it boggles the mind.

It looks like the concept but engineering wise it’s not what they said it to be. For example, Musk said the outer stainless panels act as the frame of the truck but now the panels are just for show and probably glued on stamped sheet metal parts. It’s also very heavy just like any other EV. Specs are impressive but with a huge battery and 3 motors, you could do that with anything. It will be interesting to see how many reservations actually convert into reality. Many people made a reservations just to appear ’cool’ but had no intention or the money to actually buy it.
@jamesengland746110 ай бұрын
The stainless exterior is still structural. They always were going to have to have stamped inner structure for the door jambs, for example, in order to fit doors, and inner structures to mount suspension, the floor battery pack, and door inners. These all integrate with the stainless panels and provide industry-leading structural stiffness and all the features needed to make a complete vehicle. It was never going to be possible to have a single exterior layer, or you'd just have a leaky, rattly cheap metal box.

@@jamesengland7461 but the panels are like in any other vehicle, only difference is that it’s more complicated to bond 2 different materials together. The hood and fenders are only decoration, just like in every car. Maybe the doors act as structural parts because of the stainless skin but that’s about it. It’s hard to believe that this method could be more efficient than stamping and spot welding parts together. Stainless is not the easiest material to work with and it looks horrible after a few years. But maybe that’s part of the charm for people who buy these.

I can recomment Hagerty's review. The Cybertruck just follows the rule: Design follows function in the most extreme way. They had to make the body minimalistic, because you cannot shape the stainless steel panels like modern panels, which are a specific alloy. Its amazing how much innovation and forward-thinking this specific car has. 48 Volt electric system to save copper wiring. Steer-by-wire like in an airplane, speed-adaptive steering. 4 wheel steering, new battery-technology, driving dynamics, etc..list goes on. New tech is always risky, but i guess, some of the concepts will set new standards in automotive history. Its a cool car which does maybe not look good (i personally like it), but impresses with its inner values...

Will be interesting as Sketchmonkey said if the Cybertruck does well if it will encourage other manufacturers to be more adventurous. I was thinking this with the lack of a rear windscreen on the Polestar 4. What I like about Cybertruck is its Tesla finally not playing it conservative to Vanilla with its design. I'd love to see Cybertruck influence future models since the Tesla fanbase/customers seem open to whatever they produce.

Hummer ev looks even better in black and with after market rims. Isn't even close. Only tesla and apple watch beta males disagree. Hummer has more range, higher payload towing, and better for offroading. Also 3 sec in 0-60 while weighing 9,600 lbs.

A true "clean sheet" design exercise not only for the body forms but for the chassis engineering as well. Quantum leaps in design doesn't happen very often but I do see some parallels in architecture, Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion and FL Wright's Falling Water House and Guggenheim Museum. Now that Tesla has come this far I would think they can keep the radical engineering thinking on their next project- the $25K EV. They will really have to develop low-cost, high volume production to be able to make it for a profit. Mega cast chassis and no body paint? It could be a really interesting future.

If the special equipment and material required to make Cybertruck is amortized over the 2 million pre-orders, then factor in the reduced labor costs with the new "bench assembly" method - it's estimated the cost to produce each of the first 2 million trucks is $25k. Sold for $45k it would wipe out the pick up market. Elon repeatedly states he does NOT want to eliminate others - so that sets prices. He is demonstrating what is needed in Time (10 years) and initial investments ($2 Billion) to make profitable EVs.

The specs and a lot of the tech in the Cybertruck is incredible! Great industry progression and a great way to challenge the average styling of trucks in my opinion. However, if other manufacturers start to follow this styling idea, I wouldn’t be too happy

What specs are incredible other than the 0-60, which is just about the least useful spec for a truck? It gets less range than the competitors electric trucks. The base model tows less than a Colorado, a midsized truck. The top of the line only equals a Rivian in towing, which was never intended to be a work truck. ICE Silverado and F150 trucks that are half the price beat it in towing and HD trucks totally dominate it.
