The end conversation, where Sammy sees what Hate does, bespeaks todays rampant hatred witnessed daily in our politics in this present culture. Both sides spewing HATE. Yet, good men who know the truth, will win out. Those who have been touched by the Word of God will win the day, the Day Of The Lord. Ben Casey, was one of my favorite tv shows. Dr. Kildare. Wonderful era. I'm glad as an adult Ican revisit that age here, anytime.

At timestamp 31:33 to 32:27 there is an overlay of a 2nd audio track from a different show. But other than that, this is a riveting episode. Never seen Ben Casey, but I'm a huge follower of Sammy Davis Jr & Greg Morris. I think the producers used Mr. Davis' own personal loss of his left eye to provide the details for this episode. Both the major premise of the racial injustices in professional careers and the minor premise of a doctor's oath of prioritizing patients health, are both issues sadly America is still dealing with to this date.

There was a piece of track of a Friars Roast that I forgot to remove. Once I finish pushing out new content, I'll put up a clean copy of this episode.

First broadcast on October 2, 1963, "Allie" from ABC-TV's "BEN CASEY" delivers a grand medical dramatic episode with guest star, Sammy Davis, Jr., who plays a Baseball player whose right eye was hit by a Baseball. This pareilels Davis, Jr's real life experience with the loss of one of his eyes during an auto accident some years earlier. Greg Morris, who later became an effective part of The IMF Team on CBS's "MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE" (1966-1973), guest stars as a blunt, humorless medical assistant, with a clip on his shoulder. Leo Penn, father of actor Sean Penn, directed this episode.

Sammy Davis shouldn't be so upset about loosing his left (glass) eye it seems.

I saw this episode as a kid. I didn’t know much about Mr Davis. The true story on how he lost his eye and the rotten whites only hospital that refused to treat him is so sad.

Sammy actually lost that eye in a car accident in the 50s so he could relate very well to this character.

Sammy's wife is played by Isabelle Cooley, one of the most attractive leading black american actresses of her day. She had starred in London in 'Anna Lucasta' in the 1950's but later was removed from a USO entertainment tour when right-wing HUAC activists targeted her with ridiculous claims of Communism due to her work with Civil rights groups. Cooley is mostly an unknown to subsequent generations.

Greg Morris' character appears disgruntled, embittered and attacking in a fairy tale depiction of racial harmony and support from all in the environment. Writing which blames the victim's character and poor attitude. Greg Morris' "scary" character depicting an empowered black man who revels in hate and rejects love. As if in 1963, when this episode was broadcast, Jim Crow laws were not being strictly enforced and maintained through violence or by any other means. Bloody Sunday, the march held in Selma, Alabama, was in 1965. Nightly images of beating, violence, murder of civil rights activists being broadcast nightly on the news. In fact Isabelle Cooley, who plays Sammy Davis' wife, was hounded out of the profession for her support for the civil rights movement.
