A double century at any level of course is brilliant but it puts the parlous state of English Test cricket & indeed the 'multi day' county game into perspective. Ben Duckett is poor as a Test batsman never mind an opening bat with a paltry average of just 40 which is a 'false' figure due to the 182 racked up against Ireland. BD's double century must demonstrate that a poor English Test batsman 'cannot be dismissed' suggesting that the bowling attack is even worse. Men's English Test cricket will be dead & buried within 5 years.

If you remove that Ireland innings he averages 39 since returning to the test team in 2022, which while hardly world beating is better than any opener we've tried since Cook, and very solid for an opening batter. Like I can count on one hand the number of opening batters playing today that have a better average. You very clearly actually have no idea what you're talking about. Cook only averaged around 44 for goodness sake, which is almost the same as Duckett if you don't cherry pick your stats by removing scores you don't deem as significant.
