Mate you seem like a decent young fella. I was a very troubled female in the late 80's & 90's lost my Dad as a teenager and I grew up in violence and my whole family was fucked. Prisons and mental health, addiction and I'm so happy I've got a roof over my head and my dog and I've found peace. My partner died 3 yrs ago aged 42 and he nearly went to Broadmoor but he went somewhere else then met me and we helped each other and both never want back to jail. Choose life.

Broadmoor is a HOSPITAL for people with mental health problems, it is NOT a prison! It has also not been known as a 'Asylum for the Criminally Insane' since 1948. Though often violent and a significant risk to others, not all patients are, and not all have criminal records. Please, these are importance distinctions to make to ensure people with severe mental health problems (who are themselves suffering) are not blanketed as criminals or lunatics.

One of the best podcast conversations I’ve listened to just drills in our government issues the power of this will hopefully change the prison systems forever. It saddens me my mate pushed his best mate after a few drinks he fell in the canal and died he got an attempted murder charge. The mental health issues after that must be crazy, we are not protecting our youth we are making them suffer 😔

I use to work at Broadmoor as a Health Care Assistant and worked on Luton ward which was one of the admission wards the other was Churchill and Ben mentions about the cannibal killer I met him a couple of times. Did enjoy working at Broadmoor but left due to having a motorbike accident but have applied for jobs there recently but nothing come of them. But am working for the ambulance service now which is my dream job and love it.

I just saw Ep 1 from Real Stories. And I’ll watch all of them. But what I immediately saw was staff keeping most patients away from each other. Working on developing the best treatment plan for them. AND that there is nothing like it here in the U.S. Dangerous prisoners and those with mental illness just get shoved into a high security unit and get very LITTLE treatment . The disappearance (Reagan) of mental institutions like Broadmore is why our homeless population is what it is and why many mentally ill people end up in jail here.

I spent the majority of my time from 18-23 in prison. The whole system needs changing. Banging someone up for 23 hours a day is not rehabilitation. I went to an open prison and I was on a wing that was run like a boot camp. Wake up early, run around the prison 4 times, have your cell inspected every morning for cleanliness, have a parade every Sunday where you have to iron your clothes in a certain way and polish your shoes etc. I then started working at a charity shop before my release. All prisons should be like this. I even went to the Lake District with 10 other prisoners and two guards for a week.
