Did you set up rules on balloon placement on the robots? It seems like some of the weapons are limited on height (minus the scorpion spike of death). I would build a moving platform for the balloons so they are harder to hit. Defense wins robot championships!

Also, I wasn't feelin' what Ben was doing with his bot (the complicated weapons, I mean), but y'know, if you're doing this you might as well have some fun and not just go for the most efficient solution. Although in the end he did put some static spikes on it. :P

Finally something for the Intel Edison :) I thought Wifi + Bluetooth + Arduino-compatible = great!? Well, I think Intel made a product not suitable for the average maker/tinkerer. Maybe it's good for embedded products... The support, wasn't good, but they had time to rebuild their website like 3 times?! Another Problem: Try to connect something without I²C or most important: fancy blinky, blinky NeoPixel's :D . Also, I had to mess with some files to allow a automatic wifi-connection. Wireless Firmware Update? Sounds good, but apparently my board has a version installed, which is higher than the "latest version"...?! :( I hope you will come up with some useful and interesting stuff as always. ;) Best regards from Germany :)

Why not start afresh and go with a simple high speed spinning disc with two heavy duty blades on it which will turn other robots into little tiny pieces and if you have seen ROBOT WARS on the internet then you will have heard of a robot called HYPNO-DISC which was a robot from Wales in the UK which had a heavy fast spinning disc with tanto blades attached which would tear other robots to tiny pieces and was nearly always targeted by the other machines before trashing each other you know ganging up on HYPNO-DISC and trying to trash him but they often got trashed themselves for their pains.

A high power Blu-Ray LASER would work to burst balloons over a large distance and I don't know why you changed you mind over using a Blu-Ray LASER to pop balloons, it would not have taken much just 2x PJ996 6v batteries through a regulator to get the required voltage to drive a Blu-Ray LASER, and you have a LASER from a LASER Printer that might be powerful enough to slice through Karen's balloons from across the room, Or go at a different tangent you know saying you have a robot base a high speed head-drum motor from a VCR would be able to spin a large heavy disc with two large razer blades attached to it should be able to wreak some havoc.

If it's strong enough to burst a balloon, wouldn't it also risk possible damage to eyes? The weapons rule was that the robots couldn't have anything that could actually hurt the people in the room if something went wrong. This is also why no high speed spinning weapons were allowed. If they would have enough velocity to hit someone if it broke loose, it wasn't allowed.

why do you guys always use crap quality 18650s? use something with MaH capacity like an LG HG2 (3000 MaH 20amp current load) or Sony VTC series batteries. my rule is "if they dont make good TVs i refuse to use" Sony Samsung and LG. Most all other 18650s are rewraps of "B bin" good batteries
