Majestic golf swing, poetry in motion. There will never be another Ben Hogan, his ball striking ability, steely determination, ability to come back from devastating injuries, and the only golfer to truly own his swing. He would surely have won more than the 9 Major Championships if it wasn’t for the 2nd World War and the horrific car accident he had in the prime of his career. After recovering, he was unable to compete regularly due to his weakened legs, and therefore had to miss many majors, especially the US PGA. If you ask the true legends of the game, past and present, many will say that Ben is arguably the greatest!
@ds18684 жыл бұрын
Ben Hogan missed many US PGA majors simply because he didn't like the match play format. Certainly not in 1953 as he played The Open Championship at Carnoustie and the dates clashed with the US PGA! Undoubtedly though he would have won many more majors if it wasn't for the automobile crash. He is without doubt in my mind the greatest golfer who ever lived.

everything you say is spot on and articulate and I appreciate it . Would like to add one small caveat. The original grand slam of golf which Bobby Jones won in 1930 was the United States Amateur and Open along with the British Amateur and Open. at that time golf professionals were considered second class citizens and actually had to change clothes in the parking lot at some venues. Jones was an attorney and the best golfer in the land despite never turning professional. The British Open and PGA championships schedules overlapped which made it impossible to compete in both. Hogan' only British Open win came at Carnoustie and was followed by a ticker tape parade in New York. You are quite correct that Ben Hogan skipped the PGA most frequently because of the fornat ; 36 holes two consecutive days followed by match play. I think it's worth noting that Hogan won six of his nine grand slam events AFTER the accident as he did the vast majority of his 64 tournaments . I contend Ben Hogan would have won a Bye a several

It would be next to impossible to immulate this swing... everything they are teaching today is counter to what you are seeing. Hold the club face square on the backswing when, in actuality, you should be rolling the club through the entire swing. It's a toe hang club, so it's made to roll. But they are teaching fight what the club is built to do and resist the rotation.

@@fradaja yes the pros are using stronger lofts too. Trackman numbers for pros seven iron is 30°. And they deloft it further by launching it at 17°. My set is forged from the early 2000s my 7i is 34° but I can hit it high or low so it doesn't matter to me. When I see a pro hit 7i 220 I just laugh they're launching it17° so 220 is not that big a deal, the material they make them with allows for thinner hotter faces . Also wind is important and downhill etc. I played on a course after a tournament and was shocked on the roll out along with the number of down grade holes. It's the industrys job to make them super human. What they are is very consistent with landing yardage and they're good putters.
