The Father of the modern golf swing

excellent tips; best one i heard him give, was when he was playing snead, back in 60's , in a match sponsored by Shells wonderful world of golf,; he demonstrated, to him, the most important part of the swing, is the movement of the lower body (hips, knees), from the top of the swing, ; that tip has always helped me

Aside from keeping the head centered that lower body movement is paramount

Ken Venturi who played a lot with both Hogan and Nelson said Ben was the best course strategist however Byron was the better ball striker.
@nobodyaskedbut2 жыл бұрын
More people who played with them both say the better player was Hogan. Their records back up the majority. Half of Nelson's tour wins were in the watered down WW2 years of 1944&'45. After Nelson's "retirement" between 1947 & 1955 Hogan played in 19 modern majors & won 8 of them. Nelson played in 12 modern majors during the same time frame & won zero of them. Hogan, of course, didn't retire in 1947 but he did endure that life changing experience in 1949.

The greatest ball striker and most perfect swing fundamentals the game will ever know. You can argue greatest all around player but never the best ball striker. Jack. Tiger and all the rest were not in this mans league! Ben Hogan probably worked harder at golf than anyone ever worked at anything.

Well said there buddy couldn't agree more with you tbh with you , I'm a massive Mr Hogan fan and like you said it's very difficult almost impossible to state who's the greatest etc as different generations also each generation had an advantage over there previous one also the courses were in so much better condition etc when Nicklaus was at his peak. But everything that Mr Hogan went through etc was unbelievable to get to the very top even after his near fatal car accident, definitely in my eyes the greatest ball striker ever through the whole 14 clubs etc also the greatest course manager that ever lived , true fact Nicklaus on a few occasions used to always watch Mr Hogan practise, Mr Hogan never watched jack period.What a 4 ball it would be to have Nicklaus , Tiger, Walter Hagen and Mr Hogan , each player number 1 in the world etc and also from different generations

He thought the wrist should be in a state of flexion at impact (bowed). Pronation and supination are rotational motions.
@norrispg60855 жыл бұрын
flexion is static...supinated is correct in that it is dynamic...Mr. Hogan wanted the left wrist to go from pronated and cupped to supinated and bowed

if bobby, would have dropped his law career, and not have a nerve disorder, would have been the greatest golfer ever, ... well also take the game seriously, more than just being a country club star and Amateur status major champion winner. Robert "Bobby" Jones, the silky'est swinging sumbeach ever. Hogan the dude, but Bobby was the man
@blackie755 жыл бұрын
Slammin' Sammy Snead was pure butter. He looked a lot like Jones, no doubting he'd watched a lot of his footage when he was learning the game.
@philosopher63185 жыл бұрын
Bobby Jones did not have the desire of Hogan. He peaked when the competition was small due to finance and market. He was not fully driven by Golf which is a prerequisite to being a true great. Hogan on the other hand lived and breathed the game and even a catastrophic car crash did not deter his drive, excuse the pun, to not only succeed but excel in his search for refined mechanics. I would give Hogan 10 out of 10 and Bobby Jones a 7.5 out of 10 all things considered.
@TheMotownPhilly5 жыл бұрын

I agree. Jones had the greatest swing of all time.
@ag3583 жыл бұрын
Was bobby jones the greatest because he won 13 majors by the age of 28 and retired or that he won more than 50% of all the tournaments he entered or was it because he won 3 British opens out of 4 entries. Maybe because he shot a 66 in England that could easily been a 61 at a time that par golf was great golf. Was it because he reached a 605 uphill par 5 in 2, and made the eagle putt. He was the greatest because in his day you couldn't lift, clean and place the ball on the green and still shot great rounds , and he didn't TOUCH A CLUB FOR MONTHS between majors. Have ANY golfer from the past or present not touch a club for months between major tournaments and see how they do. His swing was poetically powerful and he could hit any golf shot consistently long with his equipment and ball. Bobby srarted the walk, everyone else followed.

the hogan book has a lot of great stuff in it but i think a lot of golf stuff you have to figure out for yourself. there's almost nothing instinctive about it like other sports. looking at pictures of pro golfers is probably one of the worst things. moving pictures or in person viewing is better, more dynamic idea than static.
