Ben... A customer recommended you, or at least I hope it was you, and he told me that you would be the person to send a free airlayer to, for review. I lived on this property for about 7 years and my landlords had this big fig tree in their backyard property. I didn't like figs and I never paid it any mind until a year or so ago when I moved to the back house and acquired the land and tree. When I tried the figs I was blown away I couldn't believe how big they were. Long story short I have been researching this tree for a year or so and bringing various people in to figure out what exactly it is. My landlord is 72 years old and she told me that her dad whose name Frederick Tassano, immigrated from Italy and somehow acquired it in the early 1960s along with five or so other rare specialty fig trees. she told me he was obsessed about those trees and he didn't tell anybody about them and he would cover them with nets etc the only people he would share the figs with was his family who lived down in LA. The tree is located in Manteca California just south of Stockton. my landlord told me that when her dad died she tore all of his trees out but she couldn't get the root out on this last one. It ended up growing back and then maybe around 8 years ago she had it cut all the way down to the ground in which it pushed out to around 30 plus feet tall and maybe around 30 ft wide. She constantly trimmed it throughout the years since it was topped so who knows how big it would be... Either way this specimen never ceases to amaze and has a very delicious honey berry taste. I suspect there is polyploidism and possibly other mutations going on as the leaves are prehistorically huge and the fruits get pretty damn big. The second crop gets smaller in size but my tree so big and produces so much fruit that I'm sure they would be bigger if I kept it smaller. Fruit in the shade stays a bright lime yellow green and if in the sun it turns a nice light yellow. I'm going to attach some of my video links that I would really appreciate if you could watch and if you're the person I hope you are I really really would like you to try this fig and tell me your opinions and ideas. Thank you for your time reading this lengthy message. The second video link I am sending you fast forward to 3:46. The stems on the leaves on this tree have the same anatomy as a branch and their hard as hell with what looks like root primordia. At 3:46 I whack a leaf stem against a wooden chair like a piece of bamboo. Somebody could seriously get hurt if you hit them with it. You could probably even stab somebody to death with them. A damn Leaf stem... I can't make this stuff up. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGiUmnZnapx8fck kzbin.info/www/bejne/goLPpId6r7eJrc0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXvaqaeQedJ3odU

Thank your for doing your reviews, Ben. You have a great way of communicating the flavor profiles, and I find that so helpful as I'm researching new varieties. You are a big help! Looking forward to the 2021 season!

Very helpful information. I am very interested in the breba fig due to I live in cool Puget Sound area. Are you grow those 5 figs in ground or in pot? What about their productivity? Can their breba productivity beat the classic Desert King?

Hi Ben BC Byron here. How productive where these varieties? Your ratings usually include productivity but these did not include that

Ben, thank you for your reviews. I'm in the Texas Hill Country and have always enjoyed figs. I just got my first fig tree, a celest. I'm unsure what it will produce for fruit, but I'm anxiously awaiting the first fruit. I'm going to take the tree down to 18 inches this week and hopefully I'll have a nice crop. I watched your 2018 Top Ten figs, I'm hooked. I would love to see how some of those would do in our area. We're zone 8A. Regards from the TX Yakeee

I'm new to the Olympic peninsula, having been raised in Florida, I've a lot to learn. I'm going to try to air layer some figs from my " ever bearing fig" origins are questionable, but I have figs from summer until frost (last month). So glad I found your channel.

do you offer fig cuttings?

Hi Ben! do u have fig cuttings for Black Zadar, Golden riverside, or Vincenzo available? I can’t find those anywhere, Black Zadar do sell online but from another country can’t ship to here cause of USDA agricultural department policies, Golden riverside do sell online also but probably not the same kind that you have. I’m in Renton next to u and really interesting in fig after watching your videos fig tasting. If u do pleases let me know and I can buy some from u, thanks you!

Hi! I like your video and I am your subscriber. I like to learn to know everything about fig. I like your suggestion.☺ I love fig. I grow fig in my country-Thailand. Thailand is in the tropical climate and it's hard to grow fig because of the heavy rain in the Rainey season. The fallen leaves caused by rust fig is made the fig weakness. I have 1 question to ask you, does the fig produce its breba crop in Thailand or somewhere else in the tropical climate country? Thank you very much ..

I just found your channel and am so fascinated! I want to grow a few figs (also in zone 8b). For a newbie, what are the top 3 you'd suggest? And where would you recommend purchasing the plants from? Would you recommend planting them in the ground or a bucket? I haven't decided on a good location yet. Thank you for any advice you can give!
