I just had a couple of beers with this guy, without knowing who he is. he bought me a beer, and we talked a lot. he is a really nice guy. in the end, he became REALLY drunk. down to earth kind of guy, and it seems like he is enjoying his time in Denmark where he is because of the injury.

Saw Ben skating Burnside real soon after getting the halo off and we didn't know what the hell was going on. We first thought this dude is so out of control, but going way faster than everybody. Then he started getting his ride on and we were like, "Damn! That's Ben Schroeder!!!! He's getting his shit back together right here in front of our stupid faces!!!" He was so nice. The FORCE!!! So much speed and girth and weight flying around all over the place. We were stoked.

@@marissac870 he had a halo contraption (dozens of rods and screws) holding his leg together after he destroyed his tibia getting run over by a car downhilling. He was out of commission for a long while.

@@marissac870 skull halo 1994 - he had to learn to walk again after the car accident 1994 and wasn't supposed to survive and do anything at all. He is a miracle . 10 years ago on his leg. Car didn't stop at the stop sign and it ran over his leg and he almost had it amputated

Ben is a super cool guy, fun to skate with. Skated with him at his ramp and at eagle rock back in the 80's. I really don't remember a time when he wasn't an awesome skater. Inspiring to be around for sure!

Crazy how street just sidelined vert, guys, so many, with so much to offer in skateboarding. I myself was one of those street guys overlooking ramp. We just couldn't relate. I had vert guys boards coz I started in late 80s, I obviously respected the hell out of them. They were like superhuman,and a most kids in Britain didn't have access to ramps anyway. I got caught up in the street revolution through the 90s, but I love to pay my overdue respect by watching some of the ramp guys from back in the day. The true Kings of skateboarding? I did get into mini ramps in the end though. Man I wish it was beginning of 90s again.

I remember skating in Ben's (aka BIG BEN) backyard with him, Matt , Nate, Chris, Jim & Jeff....and many other guys. I had started a month late at Monrovia High School and got attention carrying my skateboard . Back then there many girls that skateboarded in the 70s and 80s. But we were out there....Now there so many now...That totally ROCKS I was at the DewTour Des Moines Iowa today and it got canceled later in the day due to the rain. Have to admit I never been to any of Skateboard events before. The Skatepark here is Huge!!! Was told that it is the biggest Skatepark Nationwide.

Me and my buddy went to catch the 1988 Gotcha Grind in Seattle. Ben Schroeder and Chris Miller were the 2 skaters I had the most desire to see ride that day, personally.

I don't know how but Ben somehow found out about a mini ramp me and my buddy Will built in his dads back yard in Rosemead, it was a 6 footer with tombstones, a channel, spine, a corner and a 8 foot wall ride with 2 foot of vert. That crazy man blasted lines we couldn't dream of at speeds well above sane limits! This was back in the early 90"s, man where we stoked that day!

I saw ben skate at a park in ft wayne Indiana. They had a 4 foot ramp that met an 8 foot vert wall. Me and my buddy thought we were cool doing kick turns on the vert seeing who got the highest. In flys ben schroder rides the ramp up the 8 foot and rock and rolls off the top and back down. That's when i learned pros like him in any sport were just at another level. There was no deck at the top just 12 feet straight down. At of all the pros ive seen nothing was as ever spontaneously cool and ballsy as that.

You should see Ben's ramp in the backyard in 1986. Had two ramps and one was just at tall 8 foot or more! When I was on it....I only went if any 3 feet high and everyone laughed....it was awesome.
