@cbrindle91Күн бұрын
Years back it was *DEMANDED* from the corporations by the unions. It was cheaper because it was mandatory to be included in the benefit package given to vested employees. The corporation contributed more to the policy premium because more employees were covered. More employees being covered means they are paying premiums, as well. But everyone is chipping in more so the premium would go down. Theoretically how it works with an honest insurance company, at least... But these health insurance companies are corporations in a capitalist system without adequate regulations; they are allowed to operate with unrestrained greed.

@Jake-Day for example, before I moved back stateside I had been trying to get an appointment with a colorectal surgeon for an entire year. My phone dings and there are my test results. They tracked the healing of my incision with some kind of photogrammetry or 3d scan program on tablets. In Canada the more you earn the more you pay for the same quality of care, which decreases for every immigrant they bring in without any plan for healthcare, housing or jobs. And Poilievre is no Trump. Canada is in a bad way and it's going to take decades to recover. Even my most patriotic America-hating Canadian friend lives in Boston now.

See, the rich own the media outlets, so they are free to weave whatever narrative they desire without any meaningful pushback from another mainstream source. They are the ones who claim we have "the best healthcare in the world" because they can afford to utilize the system. They don't experience the issues every other American does, and nor will they acknowledge them in their reports. The system, from top to bottom, works for those with the bank accounts stocked with enough cash to manipulate it to their whims. They pump the fairytale that America has more freedom and opportunity than any other country on Earth, despite the cold reality the proletariat experiences within her borders.

It's funny, the moment you said "tying your CAR insurance to employment makes more sense than your health insurance" I instantly understood why. Not that either should be, but the logic is sound. The easiest solution is NOT to have the system be less complex. Medicine is, by its very nature as an advanced science, complex. Trying to square the circle doesn't work. The solution is to remove the profit motive that poisons any discussion about how resources should be allocated. Healthcare is simply not a good application of market economics, its a classic example of what is called 'inelastic demand'. In order for a market to be 'self-regulating' consumers need to be able to opt-out if the market as a whole has prices exceeding their ability to participate in said market. If you need healthcare you will pay anything, including well beyond your means to pay (through debt) because forgoing healthcare means either disability, future disability, or death. The same applies for clean drinking water, and in the US we established public water utilities to deal with this inelastic demand. We need public healthcare. Its not rocket science.

Fortunately, they figured out the error while she still had an excellent chance of suurvival. Unfortunately they refused to treat her once they knew the correct treatment. She pleaded with them to no avail. She traveled and paid for an experimental treatment in China, went into remission, but ultimately passed away. That is why I oppose full scale single payer. Health insurers in the U.S. are also failing us. Maybe a form of medicare with medicare advantage type plans, or heavily subsidized employer mandates, combined with medicaid options for the self employed, as Nixon proposed in the seventies.
