Everyone always makes fun of Ben because he hasn't been able to develop a consistent jumpshot yet. But here's the thing: he is still able to dominate the game without one. There's not many players in the league who can take control of a game without shooting, and Ben Simmons is definitely one of them. He's already established himself as one of the best finishers and passers in the league, and his defense is extremely underrated too. Magic Johnson and LeBron (the two people Ben is compared most to) couldn't consistently shoot until they were deep into their respective careers. Ben is going to be a star for years into the future. By the way, he was a rookie in the 2017-18 season. The first season where you log a minute during the regular season is officially considered your rookie year. No one complained when Blake Griffin won the 2010-11 ROTY Award despite being drafted in 2009 and getting injured his first year like Ben did. No one complained when David Robinson won the 1989-90 ROTY Award despite being drafted in 1987 and spending his first two seasons in the Navy. No one complained when Larry Bird won the 1979-80 ROTY Award despite being drafted in 1978 and spending another year at Indiana State. Ben was a rookie last year and he made a much larger impact and had a much more impressive season than both Mitchell and Tatum. That is a concrete fact. I'm just hoping Michael Porter Jr. doesn't get the same treatment when he wins ROTY in 2019-20.

Ppl who compare Simmons not having a jumper to Lebron not having a consistent one in the past don't know what they are talking about. Lebron wasn't great but he could make some and he wasn't afraid to take them. Simmons Has shooting mechanics problems and is scared to death of a shot more than 5 ft from the rim. He may get a OK jumper one day but will never be great at it. In the league today you have to be able to shoot. Look at Giannis. As great as he is, he isn't going to win play off games like that.

Funny thing is Ben has proved all the haters wrong all the time and because of that I am confident he will get a jump-shot if that's what he really wants. At college people said his game will never translate to the NBA (becomes ROTY over a stacked draft class). Said he plays no defence (was a legitimate consideration for second team defence as a rookie). They said he was injury prone (played 81 games in the regular season). Said he will be a bust ( second rookie EVER to get 1,200 Points, 600 Rebounds, 600 Assists). The hate has always been there but he has proved them wrong time and time again.

Actually it's not impossible. Normal bigs can't do the same cuz they grew up learning the post moves and shit. Just as same as shooting, if you practice ballhandling enough no matter how tall you are you will be abled to handle the ball that well. From now on we'll see more players like him, but he always will be unique.

Such a shame man… I used to really enjoy watching Ben during the earlier part of his career, and I still hope he comes good. He’s never going to be a consistent shooter, or even a free throw shooter… but he needs to find that aggressive play again. Dude can get to the bucket, we know that. And if he gets fouled, he’s probably barely making 1/2. But at least it’s putting the other team and their bigs in foul trouble. These days he just seems to linger in no man’s land, waiting for a put back or a tip out ‘board’. Or setting high screens with no desire to roll. It’s a damn shame what happened to flip…
