They were certainly capable of speed-just watch their short program from ‘92, which I think was their best program ever.

Of course they were capable of creating speed. They just didn't match the speed of the other Top teams across the ice. Specially the Russians and it was so evident.

Since this team, I haven't seen anyone do a triple lateral and a split triple twist! Current teams even have hard time doing a clean triple twist. COP really has hurt originality in programs today.

Fabulous. Thank you for this complete CBC coverage. I remember watching this live and seeing them win with this beautiful performance. Note the rare forward outside death spiral at 4:59; I remember Debbi Wilkes saying it was the first one she'd ever seen. Love Josee jumping up and down at the end! I think the entire country was jumping at the end there!! Congratulations Fred and Herb.

They had some extremely difficult elements that was not always reflected in their technical scores. Their death spirals indeed, two of them were so much more difficult than anything anyone else was doing at the time, their lifts of course, still the best to date in 2017 even and their side by side spins were always with a change of edge.

Plus the fact that they performed their triple twist at around the 3 minute mark. It’s such a difficult move that most pairs perform it right off the top or in the first minute. Just shows how confident they were with that move and how great their conditioning was.

You have to realize that they purposely skated "slow" to portray their music and program, especially the middle section. You can't keep powering through with this music. Watch their earlier programs and you'll see that while yes, they were very raw, they had the power. How soon people forget! But it depends on the program. And they did skate with more pace in this program the following season (Olympics 94 season).

They were the only ones in the world to ever do that lateral twist. Looking back on it now, holy crap I can see the difference in technique is pretty massive- the regular twist he gets a big boost from her jump and inertia into the spin but the lateral twist he has to toss her almost completely on his own strength and the core support it takes from her to manage that landing yeesh.
