I was in a tough spot. I went on Keto and IF for 15 months . Did one meal a day and only Keto . Literally zero carbs except from veggies. I did lose a ton of weight and at the time I thought that was the only way to do it . I only watched Thomas Delaur and Dr Berg. Long story short I lost 100 lbs BUT then I wanted to go off it and When I started eating carbs again I gained a crap load of weight very quickly. Like 25lbs in 3 months. I then decided to simply restrict calories and eat whatever I wanted and I lost all of that 25lb back plus more. Now I am trying to figure out a way to add back calories to a healthy maintenance although I am afraid I screwed up my metabolism from all of these restricted diets. I'm gaining a lot of weight back now just because I'm not heavily restricting myself from calories anymore. It feels out of control and I don't know how to control this. One thing I know is that Keto is NOT the only way , or even a good way for most people to lose weight.

Hey Brother just thought I'd let you know I also went down to a hundred and fifty pounds but I came back up 20 lb or so because I do weight training and increased my carbs sometimes like on training days still eat ketogenic Style no sugar no flour very small amount of grains such as wild rice sprouted wheat bread occasionally and responsibly them staying at a nice size and wait personally if I were you I would get into a resistance training program if you can stay on the ketogenic way of eating maybe up to a hundred grams of carbs quality only in a day on training days includes some cardio it has worked well for me for a year-and-a-half and I am 61 just trying to help good luck

I myself listened to Dr Berg and Thomas. I lost 30 lbs and gained all of it back plus an extra 10! Keto and IF work but it isn't sustainable and interferes with my daily lifestyle. I'm doing the slow and steady approach now by going in a caloric deficit. Good luck to you.

So First Off i would encourage you to steer away from diets. No Matter what you do, diets are Not sustainable in the longterm. Mainly because you Put you Body in a starvation mode and it will naturally try to make up for the deficit once you go off the diet. However, i wouldnt worry too much over metabolic damage. That Term is Generally misused outside of science. The weightgain youre seeing is more of an Automatic process youre Body does to Combat starvation, it is Not a sign of longlasting damage. Things you can do that might Help: If you have Access to healthcare, get your thyroid checked. Thyroid conditions can contribute to weight gain and weight loss. Apart from building muscle is your best friend. Muscle is heavier than fat, so you might See weightgain anyway, but getting stronger and Putting on muscle also means that your body Burns more energy. Apart from that, Just eat healthy, eat your greens, eat your complex carbs and try stay away from eating Out of boredom. Maybe find an accredited Fitness Trainer and/or nutritionists to Work with you, If you have the funds for that. What helped me was figuring Out which means make me feel full. Back then it was either high carb or low carb, but for me, neither Option works. Eventually i realized that i felt full and more satiated when my meals contained more fats. Theres no one size fits all solution. And yh, dont worry too much about metabolic damage. Unless you have an underlying health condition, that shouldnt be a thing

When I was watching several of this "doctor's" videos on weight loss and fasting, I felt some sense of hope because he made everything so "scientific and easy", but more and more it sounds like a cult than a health channel...I never tried keto because it's to hard to sustain that diet style for me, but i did adopt the fasting method which was only eating from 11 a.m to 19 p.m. But recently I read about skipping breakfast may increase risks of getting diabetes or heart problems. Ben could you comment on this one? Should breakfast not be skipped?

Keto and I.F is safe if you do it the proper way. This way is eat the right way. Get your potassium (vegetable). This ben guy is getting you guys on the rice and millet path with mayple syrup on oatmeal. There is no fucking potassium in these shit! Just go look what potassium is for. If you try keto and go drinking wine you throw your blood sugar level sky high and than you end up in a roller coaster of high that goes super low and you never adapt. I have been on this roller coaster, it is really a torture for the brain, you get low energy! Just make sure what has not too many carbs and how much caloriea you need in a day for the amout of exercise "you" do and that's it. Keto made me look good in the mirror, I love myself today. I eat super clean, there are tones of ways to cook meat. Duck, poultry, beef, lamb. Men you have got to quit thinking that quinoa will And adding mayple syrup to oatmeal is not

Yesterday I quit three months on keto. I was in ketosis according to the testing strips yet I kept losing and gaining the same 2 kilos. All I can think to explain it is that I couldn't find the sweet spot between staying under 20g of carbohydrate, therefore eating lots of meat, eggs and fat whilst being in a calorie deficit and not being hungry all the time. I would often be so hungry I would eat a tablespoon of peanut butter instead of the banana right in front of me or a weetbix or two. It all just got to hard, to expensive and to time consuming. No doubt it works for a lot of people, but for whatever reason, not me.

I find that the restrictive nature of the Keto diet actually helps me with adherence. The restrictive nature of it prevents me from over eating and because it's quite regimented I can stay on track, tracking things and planning meals. Great video though, the benefits of the Keto diet are hugely over rated in terms of fat loss.
@AlllSmiless
@AlllSmiless 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. But it didn't/ doesn't feel restrictive for me. Which is probably why I've been able to stick with it for so long. I'm not much of a dieter because I like doing what makes me happy, lol, which is eating ice cream every other day 😅. And in general, I quite like the way I look, I was blessed with good proportions, I carry weight well and work out regularly (military) I actually didn't expect to lose weight at all, it was just a side effect of trying it out. I also had no idea that keto would suppress my appetite. I didn't realize I had been shrinking till my family started commenting. At this rate I'm going to have to stop but it's always been my intention to get to the point where I'm carb cycling w/ healthy carbs (with occasional treats of course 😋) because I think it's the optimal way of eating that will work best for my body. If I were to continue doing keto, unless I was really intentional about making sure I'm getting higher calorie foods in, I would get way too small and would no longer be slim thic and that's not what I want. I'm already a US size 8 (I use to be 12 normally) and I don't want to become any smaller than a 6. So I might switch to carb cycling earlier than I thought

Low-carb did not work for me... I was craving carbs like crazy. So I went zero carb, carnivore and that worked. So from your point of view low-carb is super restrictive, but for me, it was not restrictive enough to give me benefits. On carnivore, I do not have carb cravings, so it is easy for me to stay on it. I agree that rhetoric is wrong, a cup of wine every second day is "burned" in a few hours and should not impact weight lose, but doc was right, as long as I was taking any carbs I would be super hungry for more carbs and not lowing any weight.

As I watch these videos I have come to believe that weight may be a symptom of disease. That by attacking excess weight you're possibly also treating whatever the disease or food intolerance or gut disbiosis was. Which is why some do great on vegan, some keto, some carnivore etc. For others with mild illness just a normal reduced calorie diet cuts out processed foods or baked goods etc and they're fine. This is obvs very surface comment about but I think there's truth for that when you look at aggregate of diet people & stuff online. I wonder if we can disconnect diet from true health, so focus on health first and weight loss way after? Or consider weightless a round about way of dealing with complex and possibly makes issues?? I'm thinking about it...

@BenCarpenter
@BenCarpenter Жыл бұрын
Your first mistake is thinking I made a mistake by referring to keto as a “diet”. A diet does not just mean a temporary phase of eating, the word “diet” is used to indicate the entirety of someone’s food intake e.g. this is what my diet looks like. But typically speaking, keto diets *do* tend to be short term because in research literature most people do not adhere to them for the rest of their lives, so either definition is fine and not a mistake.
