Brilliant Router Table. Video really clear - and demonstrated simple and skilful working. Plans were excellent. Made this about six months ago - following the plans almost exactly. Taught me about pocket hole jigs, making use of double-sided tape, and introduced me to routing for cabinet-making. Had to enlarge square hole as my router base is slightly larger than the one used in the video, and modifed the size of the table base so that I could clamp it to my old black and decker workmate when in use. Then realised my router didn't have an on/off switch that was suitable for table use - so now have a new 1/2" router as well - no regrets! Tried to make a donation to the just giving page but couldn't get the link to work - would be very happy to to do so.

Thanks mate. Just giving closed the page as you are only meant to have them for a set period. I’ve just extended it for another 5 years so should be working again. If it works and you decide to donate can you let me know? Thanks. 👍🏼

@@WheresMyPencilUK Made a donation today - very gladly. I'd send a photo of the finished router - but then again it looks almost identical to the one in the video! You could make the donation link more prominent as I had to go searching for it and it might put some people off.

We did that with the same router, and used an old display table from K-Mart. The melamine surface cut beautifully and we made several drop in inserts for a couple of tools. It rolls around the shop easily to help stay out of the way. Using the acrylic really makes it a good build. Nice way to let people get ideas how to accomplish something good without dropping a ton of cash.

Great job, excellent little table. If you are really unhappy with the acrylic part ( I know the feeling of not being perfectly happy with a completed project), you may want to consider buying the Kreg router plate and just dropping it in to the square you have already created. Then again I like the fact that yours is clear and their's is not. It is nice to see the LED light when you you turn your router on, nice little touch. Great video too.

Being reasonably new to woodworking, and still putting together my tool collection, I found this very helpful. Not sure I'll be making the table base as I'd like to extend my saw table so as to incorporate the router. But the rest of your build I'll definitely be copying as I find your video easy to follow, concise, in plain language followed with a descriptor, and backed up with a plan. Very thoughtful - thank you. It's a 'thumbs up' from me. regards Richy

Having been searching and researching for myself, the reason he custom made a base plate out of acrylic is because DeWalt in their infinite wisdom decided to go with a different hole spacing to everyone else so none of the base plates will fit due to their stupid 62 x 62 hole spacing as opposed to the regular 70 x 62.

like the simplicity of your design. With the central hole in the acrylic, as far as I can understand it, it is not the using of forstner bit that caused the messy result, but that you used it to enlarge on an existing smaller hole (I did the same mistake but on hardwood). I'm pretty sure also using the holesaw bit would be messy too if the central drill bit fall in an existing previous hole. I guess these bits need sort of anchoring in the centre to work the way they are supposed to do it.

So many of these guides seem to over-complicate the fence. I like the way you approached it. It's functional and does a specific job. Sure, it can be finished beautifully, but that's an optional extra for most of us. I do like the suggestion below of a parallel T-track for guiding jigs. I also like the idea you mentioned of a guiding rule at each side of the fence to make sure it's straight. I guess we adapt your basic design to suit our own purposes and requirements, but this is a great starters' guide. Thanks.

Great video bud thanks for sharing! Nothing wrong with a forstner bit on a acrylic, your pilot hole was bigger than the bits which gave it the wobble. Try it out on another bit of scrap with matched pilot your get better result than a hole saw 👍🏻

Great video and this will probably be the design I will use as you have kindly shared. But I agree with the last comment, the music spoilt it and in some spots, it was so loud when you were speaking that I couldn't hear what you were saying. Great video and thanks
@godssheep39596 жыл бұрын
I see this video is coming up on 2 years old so this suggestion maybe irrelevant by now but what I found works well with finding the center point to drill the hole for the router bit in the base plate is to use the router itself to create the pilot hole. Use a small V groove bit or an 1/8 inch strait bit or something similar in the router to create a small pin hole while the router is mounted as it would be while in normal use then you can use the forstner bit or a hole saw to drill with that pin hole size pilot to make certain your hole is perfectly centered. That is what I found at least what works for me.

I use feather boards on my router table that came with it when I brought it new in a box at first I thought the feather boards would be useless and not needed but I have since found out there very useful I have 1 on each end of the fence to push the work downwards and 1 flat on the table to push the work towards the fence it works really well as there adjustable.

Happy Wife Happy Life how you finding the Bosch mitre saw. It looks the bees. What would you recommend for around £200 max, don't mind used
@WheresMyPencilUK7 жыл бұрын
It's a fantastic saw a real beast glad I built the mitre saw station though. I'd go for anything that is from a premium brand, DeWalt, Bosch etc. You should be able to get one for £200 second hand. I do have an evolution rage saw as a backup but it's not particularly accurate and very noisy. Cuts metal though.
@Robswoodworkingdiy7 жыл бұрын
Happy Wife Happy Life I have s cheap branded one that I've had for around 10 years, not very accurate at all. How long did it take to build the mitre saw station, problem with me is I'm impatient, I need to take my time, at the minute I build everything in an hour or so. 😫😫 router table jay bates style👍🏻
