I love that CR. Very nice color combo. I prefer the micarta Bugout scales over the TI, but your TI one is still nice. Better than the gfn standard scales anyway. You can buy aftermarket omega springs. I broke them twice in my Bugout and got tired of sending it in, so I now have 3 sets as a backup. I haven't broken any since I got them, so can't tell you how they compare, but I figure they can't be any worse. All 3 sets totaled about $21, so about $7 each. I'd spend that much on postage to send it in for warranty, and it took over 3 weeks round trip both times I sent it in, so well worth the price to me.

I’m brand new to the knife world. Just found out this existed on Benchmade website. I wouldn’t have chosen the original crooked river (too big plus colors) or the mini (colors), but being able to completely customize it to my liking, it just moved to the top of the list. I am playing around with different combos. Super fun.

MC, you have not disqualified yourself from the warranty. If you are able to put the knife back together in original condition, they have to accept the knife unless you made some mistake somewhere in there , like you tried to put the spring back and you broke it and scratched the pivot section or something crazy. I went back to REI with my modded bugout and they asked for it back and told me I had one year to make my decision after using it , and I could replace it with the same knife within one year. My omega spring popped out and the back screw is stripped because benchmade makes plastic screws for hardware imo. They strip faster than Demi Moore in that strippers movie. They will replace the entire knife to original retailer with no questions, or if you send it in with original scales and condition (used, but not broken by accident due to maintenance tweaking) you can get the knife replaced or fixed.

I agree with you about the FRN or plastic scales as just cheapens the knives especailly when you are paying over $100....That crooked river looks awesome as nice choices and well done.....Good stuff....

The Crooked River. The Crooked River has solid liners. The Bugout just has a metal housing for the Axis lock that's held inside the frame by measly screws. That's a stress point. I wouldn't try anything more abusive than cutting threads and opening letters with a Bugout. I've owned both so my opinion is fair.
@flinchfu
@flinchfu 4 жыл бұрын
A lot has to do with my personal expectations too. I've aggressively chopped and beat plenty of Axis lock Benchmade knives through stuff with large framing hammers. The Bugout simply can't handle that... not even vigerous chopping...
@robin2821
@robin2821 4 жыл бұрын
@@flinchfu Have you seen the Bugout video from Advanced Knife Bro in which he batons with a Bugout, then reports that lockup remained solid afterwards? It may be tougher than your common sense tells you it is. I have no agenda here. I'm merely providing information. I actually own a Mini Crooked River, but have never owned a Bugout (though I've come close to pulling the trigger many times).
@flinchfu
@flinchfu 4 жыл бұрын
@@robin2821 The Axis lock is beast, especially on smaller knives because the pivot and stops are proportionally larger to the knife and they don't have as much weight slamming around... The Axis is fine, they're strong.The issue is the steel insert held to the rest of the handle by T-6s or whatever. It's like a full-tang vs. a short tang in a fixed blade to use a loose analogy.
@flinchfu
@flinchfu 4 жыл бұрын
BTW, Advanced Knife Bro's abuse is pretty similar to how I use my knives. I currently carry a Contego and it's a perfect pocket-machete... The Bugout, not so much lol.

"Heavy as Titanium"... wait, didn't the knife business move to Titanium specifically for light weight and durability? I know your point, just bustin' balls! Plus Titanium just looks tough! Especially on that Bugout! I received a Griptilian knife from my daughter she made for me in the custom shop at Benchmade and will cherish it forever, she had it made for me long before the Crooked River was even a thought! The Bugout though would be perfect for the custom shop! There is a market for it! I hope Benchmade is listening!

Ever like a knife so much that you buy and keep several of the same knife , afraid when you wear it out you can't get it anymore? Got to be some kind of mental condition, anyway I may know someone who does that.

Renegade Tank Crowe I might have a few that this happens with. And I used to only buy limited production runs or customs - then I started buying production high end and using them and I start to tend to use my cheaper blades in my bag, or an auxiliary blade - I hate pulling out damasteel to try to cut someone’s food- I’m like, “let me grab a pilar really quickly!” And then I make the cut lol 😂.

@@jonduncansakurawallknifegarden LOL! I try to keep my custom ,and high end production knives in a safe but I've bought several 0562 zt's because I use that knife every day at work and have gotten attached to it, last everyday user I had was a Benchmade AFCK and I bought and wore out several of those. When they discontinued it I had one left in the safe in the box and I won't use it. Hate it when my every day carry gets discontinued. I always carry two ,something really nice for a touchstone, and a user. My user is always the one I get attached to. Got to run out and get another 0562...see ya later John!🤣

You're comparing one knife intended for camping and hiking and one for hunting and you think weight doesn't matter? Don't understand the reasoning here at all. I suppose that if you just wanted to collect them then weight should not be an issue. However, if you are going to compare them it's only right that you compare them for their intended purposes and uses. In the case for both of these knives, weight is a very critical consideration which you are totally discounting.
@metal_complex
@metal_complex 3 жыл бұрын
No. Sorry. I live in central Kansas. I'm outside constantly doing any number of activities. Hunting, fishing, outdoor work etc. The weight issue here is negligible / laughable for me. If you have your own preferences, fine. But don't make the mistake of thinking im "just a collector" lol. If these knives weighed upwards of 5oz or more? Sure. But they don't. It's just not that big of a deal to me.
@michaelwilson4404
@michaelwilson4404 3 жыл бұрын
@@metal_complex I wasn't implying that you were just a collector. I was trying to say that if someone was just a collector then it wouldn't be an important consideration. Sorry for the confusion. I totally understand that for you, weight is not an issue. Although I don't always agree with them, I respect your opinions, otherwise I wouldn't watch your videos. :) I was in an Airborne unit in the Army and I can attest that the old adage, "ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain", is true. I guess that even after all of these years I can't seem to shake my desire to have the lightest gear possible, all other things being equal.

Bugout without a doubt I can customize bugout out much more the then the river and much cheaper not a fan of river even customized Zach Stuff has all custom bug out and it’s fun do do it yourself so bugout buy cheap plus the blade is much better and it lighter. My opinion we have to pay for our customs your given the river so of course your going to go with river. Plus that custom river is not great it’s g10 with blusters sorry but the custom river is not my style and don’t like it. Good vid though I will give you a like
