I would say the Manix is more of an EDC (food prep, casual cuts, hopefully never self defense) while the griptilian is more of a folding knife. The one you take camping or use for long periods of time. Lets be real here and just say at that point you should get a fixed blade if you use a folder so much. Manix wins for me. QC and heat treatment is literally the only reason to buy American. Benchmade definitely been trying to cut corners and honestly I feel it goes with their anti-gun hypocrisy. Also, the fact the sheepsfoot of the griptilian sports the spyderco thumb hole tells you Benchmade been studying Spydercos to make theirs better. That alone is a big selling point for the Spyder-pros. Final: If you do or plan to own several blades, get a manix, its the perfect pocket knife, if I go camping I will use a cheap mora knife that I will beat around carelessly, but that is just me. If you only want 1 blade, go with benchmade, it will do everything "ok", feel great in hand and will last for a long time even being abused reasonably. What I look for in an EDC blade is: 1-Ease of use/lock/strength 2-Slicing/tip durability 3-Edge retention/heat treatment/steel 4-Self defense 5-Style My choice is simple. Manix offers exactly all that. Now say that my needs were: 1-All around work blade 2-Grip comfort 3-Strong push cuts/carving 4-Strong lock 5-Point cuts I would go with the griptilian. Which is probably why they offer those in d2 work steel. But honestly unless you are a tradesman who REALLY needs a folder, I would just get a better, cheaper, fixed blade for all that. Or an exacto tbh... fancy knifes and heavy duty just don't go hand in hand. Its a fantasy selling point thats all. You will never bushcraft a shelter with your fancy folder m390. Stop lying to yourself lol. The moment you think about smashing a blade you'll drop the fancy pants and grab a beater. "But what if it breaks" ya well what if I told you, you could have bought 10 mora knifes for the same price and literally wouldn't have the strength to break them all in your lifetime... Food for thought. Less polishing more spitting guys.

I think I'd choose the manix over the griptilian. Its overall aesthetic is more appealing and the blade shape is more utilitarian.

I'm gonna go with the manix 2 for multiple reasons 1. More blade steel choices 2. Very good heat treatments 3. Exclusives 4. Ball bearing lock is better (after adjusting it) 5. Tougher build

This is the closest one yet! For EDC I like the Manix 2, but for hiking/extended use the Griptillian would be my choice (handle makes all the difference). As of today I’d say the Manix, but that could change tomorrow.

yes to both. The upgraded 20CV grip with g10 handles is a really nice package, along with the blurple manix 2 in s110v. get one of each and carry two knives.

I EDC a Griptillion and have a few other spyderco knives. The BM is super easy to flip open even with gloves.

The winner is knife users and knife lovers everywhere. I own two Griptilians (three if you count the Benchmade Super Freek as a Griptilian ... since they're so similar). I also own four different Manix 2 knives in different blade steels and handle scale materials. I love using and carrying these knives. Although I own other knives as well, I always come back to carrying my Griptilians and my Manix 2's because they feel great in the hands and the action is fun to use.

I have both. Griptilian is MUCH easier to close with my left hand with control. Not a fan of flicking it closed. The Manix 2 requires you to pull the lever with the thumb and index finger, one on each side of the handle. But with the Griptilian, you can pull the Axis bar with just the thumb and use your index finger to close the blade with control. I'd rather sell my Manix 2 and get another Griptilian with the drop point blade (currently have the Griptilian with the partially serated tanto blade).

I love my manix 2. I used to carry a pm2 a lot but it rarely sees my pocket anymore. Actually, almost nothing sees my pocket other than my manix. Every time I carry something different I’m kind of disappointed

I have both and the Grip is the winner because it is more comfortable in the hand. I have had / have about 200 knives and surprisingly this knife still sets a benchmark for handle comfort.

Don't have a Manix but want one. I have a Grip and I'm actually not a big fan. I absolutely love the Axis lock but the knife itself is a let down. I have knives 1/4 the cost that I prefer over it. Like my Ruike P801 that I'm carrying right now. Amazing knife for less than 50$. Stick an axis lock on it and the Grip goes in the trash.

For blade grind for cutting spyderco wins. For contoured ergos the benchmade wins. For the fidget action its a draw for both. Theyre both winners, it just matters what the knife owners needs are.

A couple things for people interested in the benchmade. -Benchmade offers a custom shop, the griptilian is available in a bunch of different blade steels and blade shapes, as well as with g10 or carbon fiber handles. -The pivot area and axis lock are encased in a strong steel cartridge that extends about 2/3 down the grip. It is strong enough but the plastic feels extremely cheap. -Benchmade offers carbon fiber and g10 scales, both are stiffer and a little heavier than the base handle scales, both are pricey. -Several brands produce titanium scales, they are about the same price as the knife itself, but the end result is a beautiful titanium pebble with a ridiculously smooth axis lock. -when using titanium scales, the little jimpings in the steel lock/pivot cartridge slightly project out and make the whole thing feel amazing in hand. -Benchmade offers multiple pocket clips including deep carry, mini deep carry and black or satin coatings, if you send your knife in they will sharpen it for free for life and swap pocket clips to whatever you want.

Bought a grip and bugout yesterday. Both are smooth as butter opening and closing out of the box and perfectly centered. It’s like any company these days they all makes lemons including spyderco and benchmade. I plan on getting a few spyderco’s over the next year just because I can .

The Griptilian for the simple fact that unless you lose it, it'll last you a lifetime due to Benchmade's awesome warranty, Spydercos are basically throw away knives. They're really nice great fit and finish, and the blades come sharper outta the box then any other company. But there warranty, and customer service dept are the worst. If something happens to your Griptilian you just gotta send it in to be repaired, something happens to the Manix its trash.

I thoughtbgriptilian was awesome, but then I got it and its flemsy, I can literally bend the knife in a u shape.. i also have a 260 dollar 9170 triage auto bbw, just not impressed with the build quality as far as a solid knife strength wise.. spyderco all day everyday, there tenacious is a 40 dollar Chinese knife and it's more solid
