The backlash of this Chinese lathe is biger than the universe. You have to use ballscrews.
@marshalllhiepler9 жыл бұрын
Not to worry. Flashcut Control Systems are of an "Universal Fit" design. Thus, even backlash measuring beyond the entire universe, is universally controlled. However, you may need to go fix a sandwich or something, while Flashcut takes up the slack.

Dimitrios Savoulidis Particularly on a lathe, it's a fairly easy matter to use a split Delrin nut over the exposed Acme lead screw, heat the screw with a heat gun, and use a C clamp to compress the Delrin nut halves once the Delrin begins to melt. This is a cheap and easy way to make a zero backlash lead screw nut that's molded to your lead screw. The friction is higher than it would be with ball screws but these steppers should not be losing any steps, and if you have a Grizzly G0602 lathe, you probably aren't in a big hurry when turning your parts, anyway.

They honestly aren't necessary! Why does everyone suddenly think a hobby lathe has to make mil-spec parts?
@watahyahknow Жыл бұрын
hmmm just read that its priced around 4000 dollar , for that amount of money you couldve machined some way better mountings ans atachments for the steppermotors (i have bought all the parts for a cnc conversion and the price for those parts includung the computer arent all that high , and i got the achorn driverboard ), it should work but its incredibly builky and looking like a kid trown it together with a drillpress and a hacksaw, for the cros slide use an extended leadscrew , mount the stepper motor on the back of the crosslide leadscrew extention and keep the original crank in the front , might even be able to make a simple disconnect sleeve to connect the steppermotor for the sled drive you could remove all the gears and mount the steppermotor on either end of the leadscrew , think if you take the leadscrew out and turn it around you can atach the drive for the steppermotor on the machined end for the gears that are now on the tailstock end , again you can use a disconnect sleeve or dissengage the drive at the sled and still be able to use the lathe manually other things im missing here are the rotary encoder that you need to make single point treads using cnc and limitswitches so the lathe can set itself up for zero after the steppermotors are reconected

Hi, I don't think I would allow that retrofit on my lathe. There doesn't seem to have been any thought given to the modifications,the lead screw drive motor should have been fitted inside the gearbox housing as a direct drive, the motors are powerful enough to drive direct. The top slide motor mounted vertical with spur gears or twisted belt drive. All in all a poor example of thinking problems through. PFGHW

@@RafaelCantarella Really? How is it going to compensate for backlash during full 2-axis turning? If the X-axis leadscrew reverses rotation, there will be a serious defect in the work piece. Moreover, there will be more backlash in the region of the leadscrew where the most work has been done.

My question is how do you thread cut? I didn't see a installation of an encoder for the headstock. That's my hold up on doing a CNC conversion my Sheldon. Finding a encoder for the head stock to track RPM and position for threading. The #1 reason for me to CNC my lathe is for metric and SAE threads. I can do SAE now, and if I set things up right on my taper adapter I can do pipe threads as well. I don't have a gear to do metric threads.
@DieselRamcharger9 жыл бұрын
RobiSydney the encoder is very easy. Mach3 only supports one pulse per rev. I used an optical switch {like that found in the "hook" of a telephone} i mounted a washer with a 1/2" notch to my machine spindle {sherline 4000}. Thats all you need. You can use a positive or a negative space to create the interruption, doesn't matter as the software will accept either a high or low trigger.
@garthn25619 жыл бұрын
+RobiSydney I used a rotary encoder (1440 pulses per rev) on my home made Myford cnc conversion. I only use the Z pulse to start the threading. After that the leadscrew steps are calculated from the encoder pulses. Hand rotation using a spindle crank, or a VFD and motor (which I have installed) both work

Sorry I don't under stand you took a useful tool and made it a nightmare .... Besides the load of the belt tension will destroy the x axis nut in short time it is not built for that side load!.................

What a stupid design! You really missed all opportunities to make it useful. Why all this stuff in front of the X-axis? Can’t you mount the motor on the back side directly? For what purpose is the belt? That happens when people have no knowledge but unfortunately can make YT videos. And this Z-axis motor mount is an awful design, too. If this is the way to make America great again, then it‘s still a long way to go… in the other direction 😛😁
