It took me years to learn I should be supporting my bend with fingers behind the note. I did one-finger bends for like 6 years... I have no idea why it never occurred to me, but then I saw someone mention helping the bend with your other fingers and I thought "huh, never thought of that" and tried it. Boy does it make a huge difference in making bending easier haha. I don't think it gets mentioned enough in lessons, so I'm glad you pointed it out here for those who don't know!

What's the secret to starting on a bend that's in pitch. Just a lot of practice?
@yourguitarsage10 ай бұрын
Exactly! It’s more of a knowing through doing it many times. Similar to driving, beginner drivers are worried about staying in their lanes, but as we’ve done it for a while, it’s just a basic feel.

Definitely practice and repetition for me. After a while it just sort of becomes muscle memory and you get used to the what the right amount of bend feels like. I didn't sit there doing it over and over, but just doing it while noodling and improvising and getting it right/wrong many times, eventually I just got it wrong less and less and right more and more. Now I just don't even really think about it. That's not to say I get it perfect every time though xD We all still make mistakes just like all of life haha.

My attempts to bend sound like I am strangling a cat. Generally, am I supposed to pluck the string before the bend or during?
@yourguitarsage10 ай бұрын
Usually, before, but you can pre-bend, hit the note and then bend down.
