I'm from RI. We do have chow mein sandwich here. One thing though, what you're having is not chow mein, it's called lo mein. Chow mein is a brown gravy pouring over crispy noodle. The brown gravy for chow mein has bean spout, julienned celery, and some added ground beef. Lo mein is soft noodle, you can add pork, chicken, or beef. RI is next door to MA, as the matter of fact, I live 5 mins away from MA. They love chow mein sandwich.

@@hypercane2023 it depends on where you live. If you google the menu for chow mein in the west coast, it's soft noodle. But menu on the east coast, chow mein is gravy over crispy noodle. You pour the gravy over the crispy noodle. They serve if with the hamburger bun like Ben showed in his video.

Love that you tried Chow Mein! Lots of people eat it in a sandwich but its also a side for allot of places on its own. My meme used to pickup huge bags of the dried noodles and the powder for the sauce. Gotta get it in Fall River MA if you want the good stuff. You should try and find or cook BIFANA. Lots of portuguese people in my area of MA and I bet you'd love it! Thanks for content BEN!
@PohsTired2 жыл бұрын
Also that is LO MEIN! Chow mein is dry noodle that gets mixed right as you eat it and often has ground beef or chicken. Really hope to see you eat chow mein in the future!!
@skarnica2 жыл бұрын
Nah that's chow mein, specifically soy sauce chow mein. It's been stir fried/pan fried. I'm Cantonese and this dish is very common. Lo Mein simply means MIXED noodles (literal translation). It tends to be boiled noodles mixed with dry sauce/paste. Chow Mein literally translates to "stir fried noodles," so there's a lot of variations for it, but as long as they've been stir fried in a wok/pan, it's chow mein.
@PohsTired2 жыл бұрын
@@skarnica He’s not referring to any traditional cantonese dish in the video. He’s referring to Northeast United States. Where I live and eat. You have to come drive to every single “Chinese” food place and sternly tell every single one of them they’re wrong than. Not saying you’re wrong about anything whatsoever, just that he is not referencing the traditional meal as you see it. He is referencing New England Chow Mein, which is not what’s in the video. Enjoy your day!
@skarnica2 жыл бұрын
@@PohsTired I can agree that what he is referencing and what the NE American Chow Mein Sandwich is not what I mentioned (Canto Chow Mein), but the Chow Mein shown in the video is. So I agree that what's in the video is not New England Chow Mein (I'm not sure as to what this is tbh), it's Soy Sauce Chow Mein, a type of cantonese chow mein (the yellow crunchy chow mein is also a popular cantonese chow mein, I didn't specify initially so that might have caused confusion). The noodle type might be slightly different, but every other ingredient is pretty much identical. I would not consider what's shown in the video as lo mein (even if the noodle type is used in a variation of lo mein) because the entire dish has been stir fried.
