As a frequent customer at both of these places, I do think Beyond Burger edges it. However, Honest Burger specials are very very good, the one with avocado and hotsauce with shoestring fries last month or two months ago was something special. Bleecker Burger also an honourable mention, trying Bun and Sum this weekend which has been suggested a lot.

I've been watching Ben for a few years now. Feels surreal to see him eating from my friends restaurant (Burger & Beyond). The business actually had very humble beginning; the burgers were initially sold from a converted 1970s 'Citroen H' camper-van, available only on Saturday afternoons for a few hours in my local town. Word quickly spread and the demand was crazy, you'd have been lucky to get one before they sold out back then. Nobody here had seen a burger like that before, dare I say it was almost a revolution. PS. You missed out on the tater tots and the bone marrow gravy fries, both are delicious 😃

I love a simple flat patties as they have a larger surface area of taste but for one of these thick, high quality meat burgers, the best i ever had was from Victoria park in London. The Chef made them on the spot in an outdoor eating area and he made his own tequila relish which was amazing. I'd never heard of tequila relish before then but i wanted more instantly. Was cooked perfectly and were about £10 each.

If you ever do a part 2, Honest’s “Dalston Burger” (if on the menu since it’s regional) or any of Honest’s smash cheeseburgers (available everywhere) are the absolute best, even single patty ones are insanely amazing. Burger & Beyond’s Bougie Burger (the one drenched in bone marrow onion gravy) is SERIOUSLY INCREDIBLE too. Even though they’re very different they’re still great to compare, since they’re probably the flagship items from each restaurant!

I always wonder how the food actually tastes after all the heat is lost through the intros. Ordering food for me is a risk simply because if the temperature isn’t right, it’s so different. And even if you reheat it’s not the same as when it arrives hot. Do you eat them cold??? I’m really curious 😂

Whenever you get around to doing the British style of Doner Kebabs, (which are made by south Asians). You have to go in person. It's part of the experience to see them cooking you a fresh tandoori naan, maybe a Sheesh kebab on the flame grill as well as slicing you some doner kebab. The south Asian places also have the red chicken doner which is flavoured in the same way as tandoori chicken (a traditional south Asian thing). They don't have this in German or Turkish style places. These sorta places are usually much more affordable than the kinda places you've been eating from. About half the price of GDK. The affordability is part of the appeal, as is the highly independent nature of the businesses. They are usually single independently run outlets staffed by first gen immigrants who barely speak English.

Finally BenDeen you enjoyed mighty fine quality burgers, 100% better than the BS burgers you had the last time. I'm not surprised Burger and Beyond won the taste contest, their menu have a good variety of delicious foods, if you go back try the Krispie Fried Chicken Burger it's out of this world 🌎 I agree with you about the name switch Burger and Beyond should be called Honest Burger you are getting 'Honest' ingredients and flavours when eating their burger and fries. Honest Burger is something else completely and it's definitely Burger and Beyond. Honest Burger do a Special Burger every month with different fillings and flavours and to mark certain events. Their Christmas Burger Specials never disappoints.

Having been a professional cook (I'm not bragging, it's not a great career 😂), as soon as you unwrapped both burgers, I called it, Burger & Beyond. I knew just from looking at it and the fries (chips), it was going to win. The Honest burger looked good, too, and I personally love pickles and veg on my burgers, but having cooked and examined food for so long now, I could immediately tell Burger & Beyond was going to win. But, the important thing is you found good burgers! It looked like you really enjoyed them, and that's what matters! 😋

I'd say that the chips on the right are peeled and cooked in house. They have the skins on and not all uniform in shape. That's probably why you have some of the skinny ends. The right burger is thicker so probably explains why it may have needed bit more seasioning but the amount of seasioning is all personal preference. Both look very nice though, perfect amount of pink and no soggy buns.

The way I think of it is that Burger & Beyond is better for your “bog standard” burger (American cheese, mayo, basic crispy fries), but when you’re looking to get more adventurous, Honest Burgers are hard to beat. I live near Cardiff, and the branch there has a great one using Caerphilly cheese and stuff. That said, we also have the Grazing Shed in Cardiff (among others) whose burgers are as “super tidy” as they claim.

A uniquely under appreciated thing about honest burger is that they purposely make everything (including the sides) gluten free, so if you are gluten intolerant you just have to swap the bun to their gluten free bun and you’re good to go. It’s one of the only places you can get gluten free onion rings and chicken tenders, and is the best gluten free burger in England.

I hate this stereotype of us Brits eating jellied eels, because we don’t and most people who live here think it’s disgusting, it was only created in the 18th century by the extremely poor of London because the only thing they could get their hands on to eat was the eels that they would fish out of the polluted river thames, and I don’t know why it’s just England that gets a bad rap because American has some pretty disgusting dishes that they came up with during the Great Depression and were basically nearly identical to what us brits had to eat during hard times.

I also tried both places already. I like the burger and beyond burger which is very indulging with the beef and the cheese melting together and the burnt butter mayo which gives a richness to the burger. But I think my go to burger would rather be the honest burger who focuses on the quality of the beef and overall is more of a "British burger", which is a bit more what I am looking for in a burger. If you haven't tried yet, you should also try the cheeseburger from Flat iron (steakhouse chain in UK) with bearnaise sauce even though you can't order for take away
