David epitomizes what Jerry Byrd said long ago, "There are two ways to play a Steel Guitar: One, from the brain to the hands; and two, from the brain through the heart and then to the hands!". When all has been revealed (Judgment Day), I suppose that the 3 greatest SG players will be Jerry Byrd, Buddy Emmons and David Hartley. And ALL will say "Bravo!". May Jesus rest Jerry's and Buddy's soul. And may He continue to "gift" the innate Heavenly talents to David until he passes on; and then rest his precious soul.

No disrespect. But how can ANY one (except Moses) be in Heaven OR hell now; until AFTER judgment day when Jesus separates the sheep (the born again) and the goats (the UN born again)? "The Inquisitive want to know!"

And not to mention his hands that connect each note as though they were chained together. Not to mention his "blocking". NO one can do that! NOT even David Hartley! Oops!

David mastered the steel guitar. As others did, like Jerry Byrd and Buddy Emmons. When one realizes that the Pedal Steel Guitar is the 2nd* hardest musical instrument to master; it is no wonder there are so few that have ever done it. * The Sitar (created in India 1,000's of yrs ago) is the hardest to master.
