This guy, for me, was truly the highlight of the Hobbit series. I knew very little about Benedict Cumberbatch before seeing it, though I'd heard of him. But I was captivated by Smaug throughout every moment he spent on screen, just because of that enchanting, rich, and dark tone.

Nevermind the visual feast that Mr Cumberbatch has to offer. I could easily and happily simply settle for that voice. He seems to immerse himself in the characters he plays. A man that can bring Smaug sound sexy, now that's an alchemist.

Yes, when I first heard Smaug speak I got shivers... and I still do. It reminds me of GlaDOS in Portal 2 for some reason... as a great non-human intellect, with magnificent voice-acting.

They didn't do open auditions for Tauriel. Peter Jackson promised Evey in the days LOTR that if they ever did The Hobbit she would get a part. When they decided to do the Hobbit he called her personally and created the character.
