This is a recording I made of Benedict Mason's "Double Concerto for Horn and Trombone" with the New Music Ensemble of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in about 1989 if I remember right, the same year the work was composed. In this wild composition, Mason created one of his earliest postmodern works, full of exuberance, tonal allusions, and complex polyrhythms. I was recommend as soloist by my colleague Reinhold Friedrich. John McDonald was solo horn of the Frankfurt Radio at the time. The recording is a testament to the high quality of Germany's fabulous radio orchestras. This is a truly fine composition. If your school's new music group has the chops, or your orchestra the interest, I highly recommend it.
