I am curious if there are any studies on the impact of vaccines to our immune system versus un-vaxxed tolerance building.

Vaccines make your immune system better, literally. Being too clean, too dirty and not eating a well rounded diet rich in whole foods will reduce your immune system.
@Typhoonbladefist
@Typhoonbladefist 2 ай бұрын
It’s a moot point when you consider the people that need protection the most are the ones most likely to die from infection and would be unable to acquire natural immunity. Besides that, the flu mutates regularly so I’m not sure how long natural immunity would even benefit someone in the first place. The vaccine gives you natural immunity to various mutations we can find and add anyway without the risk of dying to the virus.

Hi, @farfiman! In the video, Dr. Greger is quoting the CDC recommendation that everyone aged 6 months or older get flu vaccines. He explains that the reason for this is to prevent younger people from giving the flu to more vulnerable older people. That said, young children do sometimes die from the flu. @@wiezumteufel9024 In your specific example assuming the patient doesn't infect the doctor or his family that could be a theoretically better scenario but it is like saying you shouldn't put helmets on kids who cycle because in one case a kid might get overconfident and crash where he otherwise wouldn't. These are just isolated examples. The data show that vaccinations cut infection rates and deaths the same way helmets reduce the harms of crashing a bike. You can concoct whatever scenarios you like but you have to look at the population data rather than hypotheticals. The CDC helpfully link a lot of studies done on the effectiveness of specifc vaccines on their website. Here is the conclusion from a study on the 2019-2020 season: "CDC estimates that flu vaccination during the 2019-2020 flu season prevented 7.1 million illnesses, 3.4 million medical visits, 100,000 hospitalizations, and 7,200 deaths associated with flu. I am huge advocate of your great work Dr Dr Greger but not on this particular topic. How can anyone trust the Data from CDC after what we've been through in the past few yrs? Its long overdue that Nutrition Facts release an updated video/press release on the "safe and effectiveness" of the covid shots taking into account current excess mortality rates, increase in disability rates etc vs the risk/reward.

It's a bit odd question. Not very easy to compare. But in general, masks are not very effective for most disease related uses. Even using masks during surgeries doesn't have great evidence.

Ultimately probably a vaccine. Because the vaccine gives you the ability to handle the disease, while a mask just makes it slightly harder to get it under some circumstance, but you will ultimately get it if it's something you keep exposing yourself to over and over.

IMO Masks are protecting mainly others. That’s why you should wear one if you’re sick. It protects you just a bit. Also depends what kind of mask we are talking about. Generally during flu season mask is better than no mask if you are older or with compromised immunity. Vaccines generally don’t prevent you from getting flu. They lower the risk and severity of disease. Also the most important thing is to wash your hands properly and have quality sleep that’s how you minimize the risk of getting sick. Oh and avoiding crowds in enclosed spaces. Fortunately flu isn’t that serious for most of the population.

In most cases, it is not possible to make the vaccines without human- or animal-derived ingredients, as explained here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/use-of-human-and-animal-products-in-vaccines/guide-to-the-use-of-human-and-animal-products-in-vaccines I hope that helps! -Christine Kestner, MS, CNS®, LDN, MPH, CHES®, NutritionFacts.org Health Support Volunteer
