Today's video is about the importance of exercise. We are all pretty much aware at this point that exercising regularly has many different health benefits, so we're going to touch on a few of those listed here today. Big one and number one, I think we should talk about this because cardiovascular benefits, heart disease, and heart attacks are still our country's number one cause of death. So exercising regularly can really help reduce your risk for cardiovascular causes of death. Get that exercise every day for at least 30 minutes, and really try to get that heart rate up, get that sweat going, and try to work. I like exercising personally, at least five days a week, and sometimes I do six, but for most people just starting out, even if we're at three days a week, maybe some walking in between those days, but three days a week or more... It doesn't have to be crazy, but more intense exercise than just walking or something like that is vital. Number two, exercising regularly can help regulate our blood sugar. There are mechanisms in our body that, when we exercise, helps us open up afterward and bring nutrition, including sugars, into the cells for processing. That helps normalize and bring down our blood sugar levels and keep those more regular.
The other thing, many people know this. I know this personally from exercise. You have a much better mood. Exercising helps us produce endorphins and helps us be in a better mood throughout the day. Sleeping better. Exercising can also help you regulate and get better sleep. Maintaining muscle mass. This is very important as we age. When you're in your senior years, a big cause of problems for seniors are falls and fractures, and many of those falls are attributed to a loss of muscle mass as they've aged. So anything we can do to keep muscle mass on our frame as we get older is very important, and the other thing that relates to my office is that I tell my patients that exercise supports chiropractic care.
