Introducing the Benelli Leoncino, reviewed here in the Lake District, England - 10miles from the Knox factory and HQ.
The Benelli Leoncino is probably the most surprising bike we have tested in recent years. It represents one of the best new bike value propositions currently on UK sale. A 500 cc parallel twin suitable for A2 licence holders, but delivering enough performance, agility and value to satisfy the more experienced rider, the Leoncino impresses in almost all departments. The Leoncino is good looking, characterful and although now manufactured in China, somehow still possesses a slice of Italian charm! It comes with plenty of useful kit including Led lights, Gear position indicator and a fuel gauge. We’d call it tremendous bang for your buck and we love it!
The Leoncino is available here bit.ly/2CUflgQ 0.
We obtained pricing information from our friends and Knox dealer Millenium Motorcycles as per below and recommend contacting them if you want to go ahead with this offer:
Leoncino Trail
- UK rrp - £5499 otr Hire Purchase cost - £133.10 per month with a £199 customer deposit

A big part of us doing these review videos is not only for the pleasure of riding motorcycles, but also to test the gear that we make. In this video we were wearing:
In the video Mark was wearing:

Great review, the Benelli's are designed in Italy, built in China then shipped back to Italy for quality control checks and then shipped out world wide.

I’m not sure about the made in China complaints. In reality Honda’s cb500x and Ducati’s scramblers are all made in Thailand , another military regime so really the point is quality and design. I’ll be having a look at one here is Aus It was the same argument when I bought a new bonneville in 2003 ( still have it) , now they’re made in Asia as well. Would that stop me buying a new triumph? No but the price might. Paul

I've just watched this again. The linear delivery is due to the 360-degree crank. Behaves like a triple. I wouldn't mind a low-mileage, secondhand one really cheap in Thailand. An acquaintance in Chiang Rai has had one for three years and hasn't had one issue, and he does a lot of long runs. Nick J

Seriously considering this as my first bike after being away from motorbiking for nearly 30 years. Oddly enough, my bike back then was a Honda XL250 Trail - lovely four stroke engine with a gorgeous 'blat-blat-blat' engine noise. Sadly it was stolen and cannibalised , as we later found out once it was recovered. So that put me off owning a bike. Until now. Mid life crisis here I come! Great, informative video. Many thanks, guys.

I want one. If i designed a motorcycle for myself, it would be this bike. Light, tourqey, great looking, a little bit of character. I wonder where i can find a Benelli dealer? Its the same company that makes SSR dirtbikes, which are actually damn durable for what you pay. I think they're really putting effort into the Benelli brand too. I believe all the design of the engines and appearance is all done in Italy and its built and owned in China. Good combination i think. Good price and characterful design, this is a sure winner.

A lot of the descriptions you're giving this bike remind me of the original BMW R80GS touring bike. It wasn't an excellent road bike and it wasn't an excellent dirt bike... but it did everything reasonably well. Back then, the people reviewing it didn't get it and said it wouldn't do well. That it was a bike that didn't know what it wanted to be... We all know what happened next.

Nice one! How did you find the 360 degree crank for vibration-I'm a bit confused as to why they didn't go down the path of a 180 degree crank as better balance-less vibration and they idle better as they firing is offset. 360 degree crank is like having two single's. Are these bikes made in China? Given the hp didn't really see the need for 2 disc's. Otherwise a great size bike as an all rounder-good performance & not too heavy. Probably two of the main criticisms of the Himalayan is the lack of power and it's 200 kg for a 411 cc single (wet). This is the same weight on the weigh bridge as my Moto Guzzi 750 Breva '07 twin with shaft drive. If Royal Enfield can put out a 411 cc single that weighs the same as the Moto Guzzi then there's something seriously wrong. It must have a horrendously heavy flywheel. One thing missing from your review like most reviews is ease of maintenance. Oil filter's/ oil/ plugs/ access for battery/ air cleaner / tappets etc. Basic stuff that a competent home mechanic would have a go at.

Looks like a really good bike! But, seems to me like 47 bhp is way too less for a 500, my 390 pumps 45 ish so an upgrade would definitely require more power. Probably good as a beginner bike, looks like it'll be a fun ride. But looks are defo a standout for the bike, a scrambler with lesser power is all I can say though.

@pauld.b7129
@pauld.b7129 5 жыл бұрын
But your 390 will probably need the head gaskets changed at some point. They all do. KTM sacrifices reliability to have a higher power output. Generally speaking you make about 1 horsepower per 10cc for an engine not under high stress. So a 500 will make about 50, a 400 will make about 40 etc. Sportbikes usually make about 1hp per 5cc meaning the 1000 usually puts out about 200hp, but needs much more work to maintain since the parts are under much higher stress. So its pretty much what you'd expect from this bike, not being a sportbike

Knox Armour @Aron - Personally even I liked the Svartpilen. Both of these bikes would be launched in India by end of this year. It looks like Leoncino would be priced higher than Svartpilen. The advantage we have for Svartpilen 401 is that it would be “Made in India” while Leoncino would be imported from China. Waiting for them to launch and then would do a test ride before buying one! If I don’t like either of them, then I might pick up the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650!

I have owned my Leonchino for a few months now and I have to say I am blown away by how much you get for your dollar! I had the cat removed and I think everyone should do this, the bike sounds amazing (though a touch loud for my liking) and really wakes up in the mid-high range. Great review guys!

I am sad that this bike is not available where I live. Definitely an all round bike with a great exhaust sound. But I would love to hear your thoughts on the Husqvarna Svartpilen/Vitpilen 401 twins as well. They are probably in the same category.

Daniel well if you appreciate reliability and Honda’s badge over all than yes cb500f all the way. But if you like to feel a bit special,and not like some mug who stole a bike from a driving school... than Leoncino over cb500 any day ; )

I've watched this several times and still enjoy it. So much so I investigated the brand line up and then test road a TRK 502 as adventure style bikes are just me, Now I have of my own. In fact I can't wait for the 800 to hit our shores next year.

Excellent review, great clear photography and good sound! (I used to be a soundman briefly so notice such things!). Very comprehensive so thanks guys. Amazing views too, up to The Lakes this summer and will be checking out Surprise View, thanks. I've been looking at the Enfield GT 650 Twin but this has turned my head with your review (very different bike I know but whatever I get will be my only - and first...). I'll be riding urban mainly with the g/f on pillion but also looking to get out of town too of course. The Enfield a head-turner for looks, sound and heritage but this looks great too for different reasons, will still turn head with the styling (I'd be interested in what you think of the sound?) and in addition offers me the chance to improve as a newbie rider on green routes and off-road which I know will improve my riding all-round (I was looking at the BMW 310GS at one point).

I believe that RE will be bringing out a 650 scrambler but it could be a while. I demoed an Interceptor and was really impressed but I like to go 'off road' hence the appeal of the Benelli.

Also, most of the little bikes are actually manufactured in Asia, KTM manufactures its motorcycles in India, Honda does it in Thailand(even the 650's are manufactured there), etc. And the quality of the bikes will all depend on what the brand demands. Also, the Benelli Leoncino is designed in Pesaro but the manufacture is done in China.

Yes they do make rubbish bikes in China.. They break down every 1000 miles or so.. you need to change the full synthetic! oil every 2500 miles otherwise it does chiiiina one last time.. but then again.. This company also ownes Volvo. I-phones and Samsungs are made for a big part in China.. and lots of Beamer and vw parts are made in China and so on.. So this could be a good bike but surely has some niggles.. But so do many European produced bikes and cars.. The best is Japanese.. still is! And there prices are more the fair, unlike for example Bmw wich are seriously over priced poser vehicles.. just my opinion
